‘We Cannot Trust Wolf and Mayo With This’ – Patriots Fans Wary After Potentially Landing No. 1 Pick of 2025 NFL Draft

    Published on

New England Patriots fans are skeptical about how Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf would utilize the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With their 40-7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the New England Patriots are 3-13 on the season. In Jerod Mayo’s first season as the team’s head coach, the AFC East franchise is on track to have their least wins in a season since 1992.

Patriots fans have already expressed their frustration with Mayo and want the franchise to replace him after this season. However, the team is likely to run it back in 2025 with both the head coach and general manager Eliot Wolf.

The New York Giants defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17, and now the Patriots are positioned to have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Patriots Fans React to Team Being in Position To Get First Overall Pick

Having the first overall pick is an exciting thing for every fan base, but Patriots fans are worried about their head coach and general manager messing things up. Here are some of the reactions from the fans on social media:

“Must have anybody other than Elliot Wolf calling the shots, please,” said a fan.

Another fan questioned, “Number 1 pick, most cap space, already got a franchise QB. Do we really trust Mayo, AVP, and Elliot Wolf to not screw this up?”

“You trust Elliot Wolf to not screw that up? I did go with consensus in the first round last year. That man cannot draft,” wrote a fan.

“Jerod Mayo is gonna ruin 2 generational prospects,” added another fan.

The Patriots’ first season without Bill Belichick hasn’t gone according to the plan. Wolf failed to deliver in the offseason with poor additions in the free agency and the draft. Mayo has also had his share of struggles.

With Robert Kraft unlikely to fire either of them, fans can only hope that both Mayo and Wolf will learn from the disappointing season and leave no stones unturned in 2025. The franchise is on the verge of the first overall pick, and if they play their cards right, the Patriots will be on a fast track to rebuilding for next season.

Patriots Can Build a Playoff-Contending Team in 2025

Since the Patriots already have their franchise quarterback in Drake Maye, they could trade the first overall pick, as the Chicago Bears did in 2023. Teams like the Giants, Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, and Cleveland Browns could be willing to trade up in the draft and can offer a lucrative package to New England.

Mayo’s team can utilize the draft capital received in the potential trade to draft Travis Hunter and/or improve other areas on the roster. New England also has the most cap space for next season and should go all-in to sign Tee Higgins.

Maye has played quite well in his rookie season, and the team should not hesitate in building around him. He has the potential to become a superstar in this league, and the Patriots have to put better players around him for his development.

The team’s head coach and general manager still have time to prove themselves. This Patriots can contend for the playoffs in the 2025 season if they get players like Higgins and Hunter to help their talented young quaretrback.
