The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs took to social media on Aug. 14 to post a picture of their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. In the post, the two-time NFL MVP was standing with a group of girls wearing sunglasses. But these aren’t just your regular high school girls, and these aren’t your regular sunglasses, either.
Patrick Mahomes’ Affinity for Sunglasses Leads to a Welcomed Surprise
The caption for the post read, “QB1 was able to meet Lee’s Summit West HS girls flag football team after practice today and gift them some @oakley_us sunglasses 😎.”
Lee’s Summit West High School girls are the winners of the first end of the flag football tournament. The glasses gifted to them are Oakley sunglasses, an official partner of the NFL.
These sunglasses can range anywhere from $35 to $320. They also have a special series named after Mahomes, which sells for $100-200. But fans know that Mahomes is known for such generosity.

Mahomes’ Charity Work
Mahomes’ right arm may be legendary on the football field, but his heart lies in the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation. Dedicated to strengthening the lives of children, the foundation focuses on health, wellness, education, and community involvement.

From sponsoring youth football camps to revitalizing playgrounds, the Mahomies Foundation is deeply committed to its mission.
The foundation’s 15 for 15 program provides annual support to 15 youth organizations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation went above and beyond by donating to food and essential needs programs while supporting local businesses.
In 2023, Mahomes won Nationwide’s Charity Challenge thanks to his work with 15 and the Mahomies.
“It is a tremendous honor to win this year’s Charity Challenge,” said Mahomes. “Since before I joined the league, it has been a goal of mine to make a lasting impact on the communities that have given so much to me.
“Brittany and I are forever grateful for the continued support and passion that we receive from Chiefs Kingdom both on and off the field. Thank you to all of the incredible fans that voted for me for this honor and the continued support for our efforts with 15 and the Mahomies. Together, we are making a lasting impact on kids in underserved communities.”

Mahomes’ Often Public Private Life
Despite being a star on the field, Mahomes provided his fans access to his personal life through the Netflix series “Quarterback.” The show brings fans directly into the trials and tribulations of what it takes and means to be an NFL star, along with the joys that come with the job.
Mahomes revealed the hardest part about filming the Netflix series, which, surprisingly, had nothing to do with the film crew surrounding his family.
“They gave me a lot of freedom on who came to film me, what they filmed,” Mahomes said.
“The hardest part was getting coach (Andy) Reid to let them in the building and let them film some of that stuff that we do there. But he was great about it. He actually interviewed and did parts of it too. So it was cool to have him and seeing his perspective.”
The personal life of Mahomes is also highly publicized. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Brittany Matthews. The lovebirds share moments of their life on social media — from the delivery of their daughter to other miscellaneous activities.
With all the fame, though, Mahomes strikes a fine balance between his public and personal life. He manages his career pressures while staying deeply connected to his roots, family, and community.
