Patrick Mahomes Reveals the Reason He Doesn’t Want Taylor Swift Performing During Super Bowl Halftime Show

Patrick Mahomes is a big fan of Taylor Swift's music, but he's more interested in continuing to win Super Bowls with his legendary tight end.

Patrick Mahomes took to the stage for Super Bowl Media Night ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs’ clash with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59.

As fans might expect, Mahomes was excited for a chance at a three-peat, as well as a chance to beat the Eagles twice in three years on the game’s biggest stage. However, one comment in particular is sure to garner the interest of sports and music fans alike.

Patrick Mahomes Downplays Interest in a Taylor Swift Halftime Show (For Now)

Taylor Swift is arguably the biggest pop star in the world, and her popularity and notoriety has only grown since her relationship with star tight end Travis Kelce began.

For years, fans have clamored for her to perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but to this point, she’s resisted taking the biggest stage in sports. This year’s Halftime Show is set to be headlined by rapper Kendrick Lamar.

When asked at Media Night if he wanted to see Swift ever perform the Halftime Show, Mahomes had a clever answer: “As long as Travis is playing and we’re in the Super Bowl, it should be hard for her to do the Halftime Show. So hopefully Trav keeps playing and we keep making it to the Super Bowl.”

Of course, rumors have been circulating for a while now that Kelce may be approaching retirement if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

Mahomes spoke to 96.5 The Fan prior to the team’s playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, and he was asked about the retirement rumors that were swirling around the tight end.

“I have no idea,” Mahomes told Kansas City’s radio station. “He hasn’t said anything to me if he’s thinking that.”

“I know he signed a two-year extension before the season and he seems like he still loves football, but he also has a great life as well,” Mahomes continued.

“Either way, I just appreciate every single time I step on the field with that guy, knowing he’s a true legend of not only the Chiefs, but the NFL. If it’s his last game, let’s go out there and get him a win. If it’s not his last game, let’s go out and win anyways, huh?”

The Chiefs also posted a video on social media featuring Kelce which encouraged fans to “cherish the moment,” naturally fueling more speculation.

As long as Kelce continues to play, the Chiefs should be considered the favorites to represent the AFC in the Big Game — they’ve done so in five of the past six years.

However, for fans of Swift, Kelce’s eventual retirement could prove to be a bittersweet moment; it may signal the end of his playing career, but it could also open the door for the pop icon to finally take center stage during the Halftime Show.
