Patrick Mahomes Goes Viral for Postgame Speech After Defeating the Bills – “They Asked For It”

The Chiefs defeated the Bills in Patrick Mahomes' first career postseason road game. Following the game, Mahomes gave a fired-up speech.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills faced off for the third time in the postseason under quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs came out on top, winning the game by a 27-24 score thanks to a late-game missed field goal by the Bills.

Despite it being Mahomes’ first postseason road game, it didn’t matter. He was fired up following the game. What did he say in his postgame speech?

Coming into the game, one of the major narratives was that Mahomes had never had to travel for a postseason game. Ultimately, it didn’t matter. Mahomes finished the day going 17 of 23 for 215 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. “We heard it all week. We were here to prove a point that we can play anywhere,” said Mahomes.

Mahomes didn’t stop there. Following the game, Mahomes addressed the team with a fiery mentality. “They asked for it. And they got what they asked for,” said Mahomes. “This s**t ain’t done. We come back next week ready to play.”

In addition to Mahomes, superstar tight end Travis Kelce said the team has to “turn it up a notch.” Kelce caught five passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Kelce and Mahomes connecting for that pair of scores broke Tom Brady’s and Rob Gronkowski’s postseason record for most career touchdowns between a quarterback and pass catcher with 16.

With the duo breaking the record, Brady took notice of it. “BEASTS. When you one up Gronk, you’re doing something right,” said Brady on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Mahomes’ 2023 season earned him a Pro Bowl selection, the sixth of his career, all of which have come in consecutive fashion. On the season, he’s passed for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He also ran the ball 75 times for 389 yards and no touchdowns.

Although the Chiefs had a down year by their standards, they still had a fantastic season. They finished the regular season with an 11-6 record, winning the AFC West. Since entering the playoffs, they’ve defeated both the Miami Dolphins and Bills on their way to the AFC Championship Game.

The major difference in this Chiefs team has been which side of the ball is their strength. In years past, the Chiefs’ offense has been unstoppable. In 2023, though, they finished the season ranked ninth in total offense according to FOX Sports, averaging 351.3 yards per game.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Chiefs have struggled in years past. However, they had the NFL’s second-ranked unit in total defense, according to FOX Sports. They’ve allowed just 289.8 yards per game, second to just the Cleveland Browns, who allowed 270.2 yards per game.

The Chiefs will now travel to Baltimore for the AFC title game. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 28, and will be broadcast by CBS. The Ravens boasted an NFL-best 13 wins during the regular season and are coming off a 34-3 victory over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.
