Patrick Mahomes’ Background
His mother is Randi Mahomes while his father is Pat Mahomes, a former MLB pitcher.
Patrick’s father is Black, while his mother is white with European ancestry, meaning the younger Mahomes is biracial. Mahomes’ heritages have left an impact on him since he experienced both cultures during his childhood.
In 2020, Mahomes talked to GQ Magazine about how he feels when he sees people judge his heritage on social media.
“I’ve seen how people on Twitter have tweeted and said, ‘Oh, you’re not full Black.’ But I’ve always just had the confidence and believed in who I am,” Mahomes explained. “And I’ve known that I’m Black. And I’m proud to be Black. And I’m proud to have a white mom, too. I’m just proud of who I am. And I’ve always had that confidence in myself.”

Mahomes Jr. was also a multi-sport phenom. In an interview with the New York Daily News, Mahomes Sr. discussed the first time he realized that his son was a special athlete.
“You know, I was coaching him one time, and we were playing a [baseball] game. We were beating the team pretty bad,” Mahomes Sr. said. “He came up to me and said, ‘Dad, I’m gonna go up here and hit left-handed the next time. I’m gonna hit left-handed, and I’m also going to hit with a wooden bat.’ I said, ‘Well, we’re up, go do what you do.’ He hit the first pitch, and he hit it over the centerfield fence, and I said, ‘Oh, this kid is pretty special.'”
Mahomes’ mother, Randi, has been an ardent supporter of her son. While she always knew that he could achieve his athletic dreams, she stressed the importance of education to her son in his formative years.
“I knew when it came to sports, he was going to be able to reach whatever level he wanted,” Randi said during a January 2020 FOX4 interview.
Patrick’s parents split up in 2006. Despite their divorce when Patrick was 6 years old, Pat Sr. and Randi have maintained a civil relationship and continued to support their children’s goals. According to this profile from People, Randi acknowledged that Pat’s MLB career was, at times, a strain on their marriage, but she proudly stated that the two remain friendly to this day and united in support of their family.
