Chiefs’ Rival Eyeing Davante Adams After Kansas City Makes Decision on Pursuit of 3x All-Pro WR

The Chiefs' decision on a potential Davante Adams trade makes another AFC contender an ideal trade spot for the Raiders' star wide receiver.

Over the last few weeks, Davante Adams has been linked with various teams. The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to part ways with the wide receiver before the NFL trade deadline.

Patrick MahomesKansas City Chiefs emerged as a potential landing spot for Adams. The injuries to their WR room make any high-profile wideout a natural fit. However, it was always doubtful whether the Raiders would trade their star player to a division rival.

Per the Athletic’s Tashan Reed, the Chiefs are reportedly not pursuing Adams. But, there are still other contenders who are in the race to trade for the Raiders receiver.

Multiple AFC Teams Are Targeting Davante Adams

In a post on X, Reed mentioned that the Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and Washington Commanders were out on Adams.

The New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and arguably the Chiefs’ biggest nemesis in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills, are still trying to trade for the six-time Pro Bowler.

Per various reports, Adams’ preferred destinations are the Saints and the Jets. Largely because he is familiar with the quarterbacks on those teams, Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers.

The Raiders player is currently due to earn a non-guaranteed amount of $36.25 million in each of the next two seasons, so financial ramifications could be a hurdle.

With Carr now out for several games due to an oblique injury, the chances of him moving to the Saints are less. The general expectation is that Adams will play for the Jets and, depending on Rodgers’ future, will likely restructure his contract after the 2024 season.

Playing for the Jets might not be the best idea for Adams due to the uncertainty around everything related to the franchise. Nobody knows who their head coach will be next year or whether Rodgers will play or not beyond this season. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith also advised Adams against a potential move to the Jets.

Davante Adams Would Be a Perfect Fit for the Bills

After a 3-0 start to the season, the Buffalo Bills have lost two straight games. Their offense did not play well in both of those losses, and although Josh Allen earlier made comments about benefitting from not having a clear-cut WR1 on the team, he might’ve changed his mind.

Having a playmaker like Adams on the team will open the field for young players like Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid, who have not had a good start to the season.

Moreover, the Bills under Joe Brady have relied on running the ball with James Cook, and with Adams on the field, there will be more running lanes to take advantage of.

The Bills also have an excellent organization with a well-established culture and no uncertainty about the future of the team’s key players. This cannot be seen with the Jets, who may be looking for a new quarterback after this season.

Ultimately, Adams will have a lot of say about the team to which he gets traded. He might prefer reuniting with Rodgers in New York, but the Bills with Allen are undoubtedly the best remaining landing spot for him. With Buffalo, he will be on a Super Bowl-contending team for years to come and pose a serious threat to the Chiefs.
