ESPN’s Pat McAfee Weighs In on How Involved NFL Legend Tom Brady Is in Raiders’ QB Search

As a limited partner in the franchise, Tom Brady’s role with the Raiders was initially viewed as financial, but he might be influencing the QB decision.

Tom Brady’s impact on football is undeniable, and even after retirement, he ensures that he remains associated with the game and the NFL in the biggest ways possible. His influence on the Las Vegas Raiders appears to be growing, with reports from Pat McAfee suggesting that he is actively involved in their quarterback search for the 2025 season.

Pat McAfee Reveals How Tom Brady Isn’t Just a Silent Investor in Raiders

As a limited partner in the franchise, Brady’s role was initially viewed as financial, but recent discussions indicate he has a strong voice in shaping the team’s future. ESPN’s McAfee recently addressed Brady’s involvement, emphasizing that the former quarterback isn’t just a silent investor.

“Tom Brady has been very active in, like, ‘Hey, not only my investment but also if I’m associated with the place, I would like it to do well!'” McAfee said.

Brady’s influence in the Raiders’ front office was previously reported by NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman in December 2024. According to the report, Brady is expected to have a “huge voice” in selecting the team’s next quarterback, with Raiders owner Mark Davis acknowledging that the seven-time Super Bowl champion could play a critical role in shaping the team’s long-term success.

Brady’s Alleged Recruitment of Matthew Stafford

Brady’s involvement in the Raiders’ quarterback situation may extend beyond advising ownership. A report from Fox’s Jordan Schultz suggested that Brady recently hosted Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford at his home in Montana. The two reportedly spent time skiing together, and Brady has allegedly been trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders.

However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport downplayed the report, stating that Brady and Stafford merely “ran into each other” at a Montana ski resort and that the meeting was unplanned as both had homes in the same community. Rapoport also clarified that the interaction was not an extensive discussion about Stafford’s future.

Schultz has since doubled down, questioning whether the meeting was purely coincidental. “If you really think Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford just happened to run into each other at a ski resort in Montana — of all places — at the exact same time, I’ve got a bridge to sell you,” he wrote.

While the Rams granted Stafford’s agent permission to explore trade options, they did not permit Stafford to meet directly with teams’ ownership, coaches, or executives. Therefore, if Brady was actively recruiting Stafford to Las Vegas, it could constitute a tampering violation under NFL rules.

The situation remains unclear, and the Rams have not publicly addressed the extent of Stafford’s trade discussions. However, given Brady’s dual role as a Fox analyst and Raiders investor and allegedly recruiter, any involvement with Stafford could raise concerns about conflicts of interest.

Ultimately, though, Stafford reached an agreement with the Rams to remain with the organization through at least 2025, leaving the Montana incident in the past.

As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on how much influence Brady truly wields in the Raiders’ quarterback decision.
