Pat Freiermuth Injury Update: Latest on the Pittsburgh Steelers Tight End

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth was injured in the second half of their matchup against the Houston Texans. Here's the latest on what we know.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth was injured in the second half of their Week 4 matchup against the Houston Texans. Here’s the latest information on the injury.

    Pat Freiermuth Injury Update

Freiermuth was ruled out by the team with a hamstring injury. He had hauled in three catches for seven yards before leaving the contest amid a rough start to the game for the Steelers.

Freiermuth is now expected to miss two to three weeks with a hamstring issue, as the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported on Monday.

The Steelers will face the Baltimore Ravens next week before taking a bye in Week 6. Theoretically, Freiermuth might only be sidelined for one game. If he’s out through Week 7, he’d miss a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Rookie tight end Darnell Washington, a third-round pick out of Georgia, stepped into Freiermuth’s place. Washington already has his first career catch in the game, a 10-yard grab coming on his lone target thus far at the time of publication.

The third-year TE played a key role for Pittsburgh each of the last two seasons before a slow start to the 2023 campaign. Freiermuth entered Week 4’s contest with five catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns on the season, including three catches for 41 yards and one touchdown in last week’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

    Fantasy Fallout from Freiermuth’s Injury

If Freiermuth is forced to miss some time here with this hamstring injury, the Steelers’ offense will continue to take hits to its depth. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson is currently on injured reserve (IR), and Freiermuth had just started to get back on the right track from a fantasy standpoint.

If Freiermuth is out for Week 5, Washington should see an uptick in volume, but it’s unlikely to be enough to put him on the streaming radar. George Pickens, Allen Robinson II, and Calvin Austin III would all move slightly up the rankings for next week, while Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris would benefit slightly as well.
