‘They Can Get After Patrick Mahomes’ – Packers Super Bowl Champ Names Biggest Threat to Chiefs’ 3-Peat Quest (and It’s Not the Bills)

    Published on

One former Green Bay Packers Super Bowl champion named the Pittsburgh Steelers as the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest threat for three-peat glory.

The Kansas City Chiefs are chasing NFL immortality this season as they attempt a historic three-peat. A back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl winner has not been achieved in nearly six decades of Super Bowl history.

Led by Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City has put together another impressive campaign. They are at the top of the AFC with an 11-2 record. However, as the playoffs come closer, the path to a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy is laid with challengers, including some teams in red-hot form.

James Jones Picks Steelers Over Bills To Worry Chiefs in Three-Peat Chase

On Fox’s “The Facility,” former Green Bay Packers Super Bowl champion James Jones pointed to the Pittsburgh Steelers as Kansas City’s biggest threat.

“I’m gonna go Steelers,” Jones said. “And the reason why I’m going to go Steelers, if you had to pick a weakness out of the Kansas City Chiefs, right now, what’s their weakness? [Left tackle] What’s the Steelers’ strength? [Pass rush]. Because Cam Heyward, you got [Alex] Highsmith, and you have T.J. Watt. Their strength is the Chiefs’ weakness.”

The Steelers have been surging, winning seven of their last eight games to improve to 10-3. Anchored by Watt’s 9.5 sacks and a defense ranked fifth in points allowed per game (18.3), Pittsburgh is a team no one wants to face in the postseason.

Offensively, Russell Wilson has found his groove, throwing for 1,784 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Najee Harris has amassed 1,126 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. George Pickens has emerged as a reliable target, racking up 850 receiving yards this season.

Jones stated, “I think they can get after Patrick Mahomes and make it really, really hard on Patrick Mahomes, and Russ [Wilson] is showing that he can score just like Josh Allen could score.”

The former Packers WR praised head coach Mike Tomlin’s squad, which rarely makes costly mistakes.

“I think that they can find a way to beat the Kansas City and their coach is a winner. They’re not going to make the stupid mistakes. Just like the Chiefs are, the Steelers aren’t going to beat themselves,” Jones continued.

The Steelers have to face Kansas City in Week 17 and may use it to send a message before the postseason begins. While Jones picked the Steelers, fellow analyst Chase Daniel supported the Buffalo Bills. He cited their confidence after a regular-season victory over Kansas City.

“I’m gonna go with the Bills, just because they already beat the Chiefs,” Chase said, “Okay, so when you beat the Chiefs, and I know it’s the regular season, I get that you got to beat the Chiefs in the postseason, but you get this confidence level that when you face them, it’s not like climbing Mount Everest — like we’ve already done that.”

As the playoffs approach, the Chiefs’ road to history won’t be easy. Whether it’s the Steelers’ ferocious pass rush or the Bills’ firepower, head coach Andy Reid and his team must overcome challenges to create one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties.
