The Green Bay Packers might have something special brewing with Jordan Love. After a breakout season in 2023, where he threw for over 4,100 yards and 32 touchdowns with four more on the run, Love regressed slightly in 2024 but has firmly established himself as the likely face of the franchise going forward.
His rapid development has given the team plenty of reasons for optimism, but there’s still one glaring issue — lacking a proven No. 1 wide receiver. Jayden Reed has shown flashes of stardom, Romeo Doubs was a reliable target, and Christian Watson can stretch the field with his deep-threat ability. But inconsistency and injuries plagued the group, and when the postseason arrived, it became clear the Packers needed a go-to weapon.
That’s why speculation is growing that Green Bay could make a major move in free agency, with Stefon Diggs emerging as a legitimate option.

Could Stefon Diggs Be the WR Answer in Green Bay?
According to USA Today’s Jacob Camenker, the Packers should be interested in Diggs, even if he’s no longer in his prime. In a recent article, Camenker explained why Diggs could be an ideal addition for the Packers, writing:
“Diggs might not be a true No. 1 receiver anymore, but the Packers should still be intrigued by his availability. His inside/outside versatility would allow the team to change his and Jayden Reed’s alignment to create advantageous matchups while taking some pressure off the oft-injured Christian Watson to play every snap. Diggs is coming off a torn ACL, so the Packers may be able to land him on a one-year deal.”
A four-time Pro Bowler and one of the most productive receivers of the past decade, Diggs has 71 career touchdowns and has shown to be a high-volume target in any system. Before tearing his ACL in Week 8, Diggs had 504 total yards and four touchdowns (including the first rushing TD of his career) in his first season with the Houston Texans.
Diggs’ Free Agency Market and Fit in Green Bay
Despite his impressive career, Diggs enters free agency with some uncertainty. PFSN ranked him No. 44 on their Top 100 Free Agents list, citing both his production and his injury concerns:
“After a tumultuous end to his Bills tenure, Stefon Diggs was off to a solid start with the Texans. His raw totals were down from his Buffalo days, but his 73% catch rate was his highest since 2020, and his target rate (23.7%) was roughly similar to what he received towards the end of his Vikings tenure.
“However, a torn ACL in Week 8 ended Diggs’ season. With the restructured contract he agreed to after being traded to Houston, Diggs will enter free agency off a major injury at 31 years old. That makes it unlikely he’ll earn anything more than another one-year deal (or guarantees beyond the first year if it’s a multi-year contract for cap purposes).
“There isn’t any word yet on whether Diggs’ recovery will last into the regular season, which could also prolong his free agency.”
Diggs’ restructured contract with Houston means he’ll hit the open market at 31 years old, making it unlikely that teams will offer him anything beyond a short-term deal with minimal guarantees. His availability for the start of the 2025 NFL season is also uncertain, which could impact his market.

Still, for a team like Green Bay, the risk could be worth the reward. The Packers don’t need Diggs to be the dominant force he was in Buffalo, but they do need a veteran presence to complement their young receiving corps. His elite route running and ability to make tough catches would give Love a reliable security blanket in key situations, something Green Bay lacked last season.
