Packers Predicted To Upgrade Jordan Love’s Weapons By Adding $31.8 Million WR1 This Offseason

Could the Packers land a true WR1 for Jordan Love? One insider predicts Green Bay will make a blockbuster move for DK Metcalf.

The Green Bay Packers’ 2024 season ended the same way it began — with a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. After their 34-29 loss to Philly in Week 1, the Packers bounced back to finish 11-6, looking like a team poised to make a deep playoff run. But when the postseason arrived, they fell flat, and their season came to a frustrating close on Wild Card Weekend, where they suffered a 22-10 defeat to the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles.

Green Bay’s regular season was impressive, but its losses told the story of a team still searching for that next level. They dropped two heartbreakers to the Minnesota Vikings (both by just two points), two more to the Detroit Lions, and also fell to the Chicago Bears and Eagles, with each loss exposing the Packers’ offensive inconsistency.

If Green Bay wants to take that next step in 2025, adding a legitimate WR1 to support Jordan Love could be the key. And according to one NFL insider, they may already have their sights set on a blockbuster move.

Insider Predicts Green Bay Packers Will Trade for DK Metcalf

Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr believes the Packers will aggressively pursue a veteran receiver this offseason, with DK Metcalf being a prime target:

“The Packers will trade for [DK] Metcalf. Green Bay’s receiving corps is dynamic, but the next step is punching the accelerator. With a down draft class on tap this year, smart teams are going to flood the veteran market and beef up the middle and upper class of their roster. As we said up top, there are only a handful of really good teams, but remaining in that space requires some risk and investment.”

This hypothetical trade aligns with Orr’s belief that the Seahawks could look to move Metcalf this offseason.

The logic is simple. Jayden Reed flashed potential but hasn’t been the most inconsistent. Christian Watson is talented but can’t seem to stay healthy. Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks are solid role players but not go-to guys. The Packers need a true alpha receiver, and Metcalf fits that mold perfectly.

Why Metcalf to Green Bay Makes Sense

Green Bay’s offense had moments of brilliance in 2024, finishing with a PFSN Offensive+ grade of 83.0 (B). The Packers ranked among the NFL’s most explosive units at times, but the lack of a dominant outside receiver was evident, especially in key moments.

Adding Metcalf would give Love a proven No. 1 target and provide the physical, downfield threat this offense lacks. At 6’4″ and 235 pounds, Metcalf is one of the most physically dominant receivers in the NFL. He can easily win most 1-on-1 matchups, stretch the field, and give Green Bay a legitimate game-changer on the outside.

Even running back Josh Jacobs, who only recently arrived in Green Bay in 2024, has publicly called for the team to make a move at wide receiver, saying, “We got a really young group of receivers. All can be really special, but I think we need a guy that’s proven to be a #1 WR already.”

Could This Move Push the Packers Over the Edge?

Love’s boom-or-bust style is both thrilling and frustrating to watch at times. But a world-class receiver like Metcalf could provide the stability and big-play ability that could help the Packers QB reach the next level.

With the Seahawks expected to restructure their offense under head coach Mike Macdonald, they may be willing to part ways with Metcalf for the right price. If Green Bay can strike a deal with Seattle for their superstar WR, this could be the exact move that turns them from playoff hopefuls into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Orr’s argument both correlates and contrasts with PFSN’s bold predictions for the 2025 season. On one hand, PFSN believes that Love will step up in a major way this coming season and earn “an invite to the MVP ceremony.” Adding a player of Metcalf’s caliber could only improve the chances of that happening.

Yet, on the Seattle side of things, the staff believes the Seahawks will “win 12+ games and host multiple playoff games.” It would difficult imagining them doing so without Metcalf on the roster, indicating Green Bay may need to look elsewhere for a WR1.
