The Green Bay Packers have been a very good team stuck behind some elite NFC powerhouses all season. While that will force the Packers on the road for the postseason, it does mean that Green Bay will still be a playoff team.
After Week 16, what does the Packers’ playoff situation currently look like?
What Is the Green Bay Packers’ Current Playoff Picture?
The 11-4 Packers have clinched a playoff spot with their dominant win over the New Orleans Saints. They are currently the sixth seed in the NFC and are stuck in that spot because of how dominant the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings have been.
The Packers have already been swept by the Lions and lost their first matchup vs. the Vikings this season. Green Bay’s other loss was in Week 1 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. That means the Packers are 0-4 against the trio of NFC teams with a better record than them this season and 11-0 against all other opponents.
Detroit’s win on Sunday officially eliminated the Packers from NFC North and No. 1 seed contention.
However, they still have a shot to finish as the fifth seed. If they defeat the Vikings next week, and the Vikings then lose to the Lions in Week 18 while the Packers defeat the Chicago Bears, they would finish with a 13-4 record, tied with Minnesota.
In that situation, the Vikings and Packers would have the same record, same division record, and same conference record. So, it would come down to the strength of the schedule. A calculation that is hard to predict, but currently has the Packers ahead according to PFN’s Playoff Predictor.
