The One Missing Piece Left on Miami Dolphins’ Offensive Line

With Isaiah Wynn and Jack Driscoll aboard, the Miami Dolphins can now look to the NFL Draft for their offensive line's finishing touch.

The Miami Dolphins‘ offensive line looks a lot more credible now than it did 10 days ago.

With Robert Hunt breaking the bank in free agency and Connor Williams uncertain when (or if) he’ll play again, change was always coming to the Dolphins’ O-line.

But now a week in, things look considerably better for Butch Barry’s group than might have been.

    Miami Dolphins Offensive Line Overview

Dolphins GM Chris Grier added two more veterans to the mix Monday by signing ex-Eagles guard Jack Driscoll and reportedly working out a contract with 2023 Dolphins Week 1 starter Isaiah Wynn.

Driscoll, 26, is a 6-foot-5, 312-pounder who can play all five positions on the offensive line. The 2020 fourth-round draft pick appeared in 54 games in his four seasons with the Eagles, starting 17.

Driscoll will likely need to win a training camp competition to secure a roster spot as a backup in 2023, while Wynn appears to be the front-runner to start at left guard.

If so, that would give the Dolphins clarity on four starters and three starting spots.

Aaron Brewer, who signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Dolphins last week, will likely be Miami’s starting center, although he can also play guard.

“I’m going until I hear the whistle,” Brewer told reporters last week. “I’m just trying to be aggressive. I’m headhunting out there, so if I can get my hands on you, I’m on you until I hear the whistle. If we’re running downfield, the ball the hasn’t stopped yet, so I’m on you until then, until the ball passed me. Even when it passed me, I’m still trying to find some more work.”

The Dolphins have three backups who played significant snaps for Miami in 2023: Liam Eichenberg, Robert Jones, and Lester Cotton.

While the Dolphins could get away with one of those three taking the fifth starting offensive line spot, our sense is there’s still one more big shoe to drop.

Thanks to their economical work in free agency, Grier can go best player available at 21 in next month’s NFL Draft, but our sense is that BPA will be an offensive lineman.

The Dolphins are one really good piece away from having a potentially better line in 2024 than it had in 2023, and the best way to find that piece at this point is in the draft.

In the latest PFN Big Board, eight of the top 24 are linemen, with center Jackson-Powers Johnson (Oregon State), guard/center Graham Barton (Duke), and tackles Amarius Mims (Georgia), Tyler Guyton (Oklahoma), and Troy Fautanu (Washington) as potential targets in Round 1.
