‘This Is His Moment’ — Nick Wright Predicts a Big Performance From Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl 59

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to create history on Super Bowl Sunday. The two-time defending champions aim to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, and they will be up against a formidable Philadelphia Eagles team.

This will be Mahomes’ fifth Super Bowl appearance, but it could be the biggest game that he will ever play in his career. Based on this, Nick Wright believes the Chiefs’ quarterback will have a legendary performance against the Eagles.

Nick Wright Shows Faith in Patrick Mahomes

In a recent segment on FS1’s “First Things First,” Wright discussed how Mahomes is among the legendary players who always play their best in the biggest games.

“I think this is going to be his moment,” Wright said. “I think that legendary players, and he is that, in the most legendary of moments, rise to the occasion.”

Wright further compared the upcoming game for Mahomes to what Michael Jordan did in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals to avoid playing Game 7 on the road. He also brought up LeBron James’ performance in the fourth quarter of the NBA Finals in 2016, when the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the series, 4-3.

The Fox Sports analyst also drew a comparison to what Tom Brady did when down 28-3 against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl to cement himself as the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL.

“This is probably Patrick’s only chance to do something definitively that Tom nor anyone ever did,” Wright added. “He might play another decade and not walk into a game where it is, if I win today, I have done something no one’s ever done, and maybe something no one ever will do… So if it’s close, he’ll win. He can’t get blown out. He crushes great defenses. He’s never lost in a dome. This is his moment.”

With a win on Sunday, Kansas City will arguably become the greatest dynasty ever in the league’s history, and the two-time NFL MVP will be determined to have the best game of his career.

Brady has beaten Mahomes’ team twice in the playoffs, so winning three straight Super Bowls will be a big talking point in the GOAT conversation when the Chiefs quarterback retires. The Eagles have a big opportunity to spoil those plans, and since they have the best roster in football, it will be intriguing to see how the AFC West team and its quarterback perform.

Mahomes Hasn’t Played His Best in Super Bowls

Based on stats, Mahomes, who finished the 2024 regular season with a No. 10 ranking (84.8) and B grade in PFN’s QB+ rankings, is the best postseason quarterback in NFL history. He will play in his fifth Super Bowl in just seven seasons as a starting quarterback, but there is one thing he has been unable to do so far.

As good as Mahomes is, he has never had a complete game in a Super Bowl. He has a record of 3-1 in the big game, but he has usually struggled in the first half of each Super Bow. He has thrown for 1,071 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions, completing 65.2% of his throws with a passer rating of 85.2.

In 20 playoff games, Mahomes has thrown just eight interceptions, with five coming in his four Super Bowl appearances. He also has a passer rating of 105.8 in the playoffs, which is much higher than what he has in Super Bowls.

If the Chiefs once again start the game slow and Mahomes struggles, the Eagles have the potential to take the game out of their reach though Saquon Barkley. As a result, the two-time NFL MVP has to click on ally cylinders from the start and will have to play the best game of his career to lead his team to another Super Bowl title and make history in the process.
