The NFL‘s Top 100 list was always going to generate at least some controversy. Not everyone would unanimously agree with the order. However, what seemed almost universally understood was where Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would end up.
However, surprisingly, Mahomes landed where no one expected him to, sparking a flood of reactions from the NFL world.
NFL World Reacts to Patrick Mahomes’ Top 100 List Ranking
When the NFL began to unveil their final 10 names to round out their Top 100 list, some of the usual suspects were expected, with players such as Christian McCaffrey, Travis Kelce, and Lamar Jackson being named. However, chief among them was always going to be Mahomes.
Here at Pro Football Network, Mahomes was almost universally accepted as the No. 1 guy in PFN’s Top 100 list. However, as the players’ list wound down, that was not the case for them. Mahomes settled in at No. 4, and his former teammate and current Miami Dolphin, Tyreek Hill, landed at No. 1.
The NFL world was stunned and took to social media to react to the ranking.
“Complete nonsense 🤦♂️,” said ESPN’s Field Yates on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk chimed in: “I don’t care who’s making the list. If Patrick Mahomes isn’t No. 1, the list is 💩”

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe pointed out just how ridiculous the amount of motivation the league has provided Mahomes this offseason. Despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls, the Chiefs quarterback continues to get disrespected.
“Patrick Mahomes may end up the greatest player to ever play football when he’s done. Yet every year, he gets unsolicited motivation in disrespect,” Wolfe said. “First, the Raiders’ Mahomes Kermit puppets. Now, players rank him No.4 in #NFLTop100 of league he has dominated. Good luck, NFL 😂”

ESPN’s Mina Kimes dropped a GIF that may have captured the sentiment perfectly, as a Simpsons character is seen saying, “And may God have mercy on us all.”

I guess when you see something so ridiculous, all you can do is laugh about it, right? At least that’s what the Action Network is suggesting Chiefs fans do after seeing this.

It even looks like Tyreek Hill himself is getting in on the fun amidst all of the reactions.

Hill then follows up by telling Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright to “go cry on set tomorrow.”

Hill has been speaking this into existence since 2017, as the NFL revealed in the following video.

Former NFL player and current analyst Geoff Schwartz offers his take on something he otherwise wouldn’t pay any mind to without such an absurd ranking.
“I typically refrain from commenting on the top 100 rankings because they aren’t done in any serious fashion and players aren’t always to be trusted when it’s list making time. But the players ranking Mahomes 4th is lol,” Schwartz said. “They’d all take him to be their quarterback.”
