NFL World Reacts to Zach Wilson Taking a Vacation During Bye Week

Zach Wilson has been the subject of plenty of controversy since entering the NFL. This time, the Jets QB caught flak for how he spent his bye week.

Zach Wilson and the New York Jets have had a turbulent start to the season, to say the least, but entered their Week 7 bye at 3-3 after back-to-back wins.

Wilson has been the cause of controversy throughout his time with the Jets due to his inconsistent play and off-the-field antics. The Jets quarterback came under fire again this week for how he and his girlfriend spent the bye week.

Zach Wilson Catches Flak for Bye Week Getaway

After six weeks of games under the microscope since Aaron Rodgers’ injury, Wilson reportedly decided to get away from it all during the bye week with a vacation trip to Utah with his girlfriend and family.

Wilson caught flak for that decision this week when WFAN’s Shaun Morash proclaimed his distaste for the choice on Wednesday’s “Evan and Tiki” podcast.

“The Jets stink after byes,” Morash said. “Zach Wilson’s season last year derailed after a bye. I believe 52 guys could have gone and visited families. The quarterback, the leader, needs to be at or around that facility all week last week. Zach Wilson has not done enough to get his a** on a plane with his girlfriend and go to Utah for a week.”

Morash’s comments drew ire from plenty of people across the internet, including former NFL defensive lineman Leger Douzable. The former Jets player, who played for the franchise from 2013 through 2015 among his other professional teams, took umbrage with Morash’s assessment of the situation on X.

Zack Rosenblatt, The Athletic’s Jets beat reporter, also expressed his disagreement with Morash by simply tweeting the following: “We don’t have to comment on every little thing guys. It was the bye week. Chill out.”

Nick Faria, Jets beat reporter for AM New York, called Morash a “disgrace to sports talk” for making the take.

Finally, one Jets fan posited that people should have to “pass a basic IQ test” before getting a platform like the one Morash has.

Wilson has gotten out to an up-and-down start to the season since stepping in for Rodgers as the starter. The third-year quarterback has completed 110 of 182 pass attempts for 1,097 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions through his first six appearances in 2023.

Time will tell how he fares in Sunday’s key bout with the New York Giants (2-5) and moving forward through the rest of the season.
