NFL World Reacts to Blockbuster L’Jarius Sneed Trade — ‘Steal for the Titans’

The Kansas City Chiefs traded star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans on Friday night for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick swap.

After being the gem of the fourth round for the Chiefs in the 2020 NFL Draft, Sneed helped Kansas City win two Super Bowls in his four years on the roster. Sneed was franchise-tagged by the Chiefs but is expected to sign a new, pricey deal with the Titans once the trade is completed.

What Did Everyone Think of the L’Jarius Sneed Trade?

Of course, the reigning Super Bowl champions probably were not thrilled about parting ways with their star cornerback. Still just 27 years old, the Titans will now secure Sneed throughout his prime. In four seasons with the Chiefs, Sneed already has over 300 tackles and 10 interceptions.

It might be a surprise that the Chiefs only received a future third-round pick in this trade, but that’s because the Titans will now have to commit serious money toward the fifth-year cornerback. The Chiefs cleared approximately $20 million with this move, giving the team around $27 million total in cap space.

Fox Sports personality Nick Wright believes that Sneed is worth every penny of his projected $80 million extension with the Titans, stating that he was the second most impactful defender on the Chiefs.

Good Morning Football host Peter Schrager also noted that Sneed was a reliably clutch player during these last two postseasons, securing the Chiefs another AFC Championship by forcing Zay Flowers to fumble.

“His punch of the ball out of Zay Flowers’ hands at the goal line in the AFC Championship Game was likely the biggest play of the Chiefs 2023 Super Bowl winning season,” Schrager said.

NFL reporter Gregg Rosenthal explains in a social media post that the Chiefs must really have been desperate for that cap space, as they could have just kept Sneed for another year and received a compensatory pick if he were to leave in free agency next year.

“Chiefs wanted that cap space bad because they could have just kept him a year and played the compensatory pick game,” he said.

Some Think Tennessee Titans Stole Sneed for Third-Rounder

As you could imagine, some fans are very surprised that one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks was traded for just a third-round pick, with many stating that this move was a “steal” for the Titans.

Sneed is a very reliable player, having started 54 games in his first four NFL seasons. For the cost of a third-round pick, he will provide the Titans with a dependable defender in their secondary for years to come.

A lot of fans are optimistic about the Titans offseason, with some fans of division rivals worried about seeing them twice per year.
