NFL Week 2 Betting Trends and Recap: Overs Dominated, 49ers Bettors Suffered Bad Beat, and More

With just two games remaining in Week 2, here are the betting trends from a wild weekend in the NFL.

Yesterday’s NFL Week 2 action was crazy to say the least. Six games in the early window were decided by one score, including two games that went into overtime. The New York Giants caused major panic for people in survivor pools before completing their greatest comeback in franchise history, and we already have an early candidate for the worst bad beat of the year.

In a week filled with notable storylines that aren’t even over yet with two games on Monday Night Football this evening, let’s recap yesterday’s action with the NFL Week 2 betting trends.

NFL Week 2 Betting Trends and Recap

A Big Week for Over Bettors

After unders went 12-4 in Week 1, it’s been a much different story this week.

Through 14 games, overs are a staggering 12-2. Ironically enough, the game with the highest total, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, was one of two games in which the under hit, and the only one yesterday before Sunday Night Football.

In yesterday’s 13 games, the over received the majority of the bets in six of them at BetMGM, but this includes the only two games that went under the point total.

Kickers Made Bettors A Lot of Money

One unique stat following yesterday’s games was that every team that played in the afternoon yesterday made a field goal. FanDuel Sportsbook offered a prop for this at 200-1 odds, and let’s just say a lot of people won money on this bet yesterday.

A Horrible Beat for the 49ers Spread

Thoughts and prayers for anyone that bet 49ers -7.5 yesterday in what is an early candidate for the worst bad beat of the year. Down 10 points on their final possession, the Rams spiked the ball to stop the clock to set up a field goal with four seconds remaining to… make it a seven-point game. An interesting decision from Sean McVay, to say the least.

But for every bad beat is an incredibly lucky win, and that is certainly the case for this bettor at DraftKings Sportsbook, who won nearly $60,000 on the Rams’ backdoor cover.

New York Giants Come Back Down 21 Points

If you had the Giants in your survivor pool yesterday, you were certainly panicking in the first half. Going into the half, the Cardinals led 20-0, and then they had a 28-7 lead with 9:34 remaining in the third quarter.

The Giants never let up, though, as they went on to score 24 consecutive points to complete the comeback and get their first win of the season. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the first time they overcame a 21-point deficit since 1949, snapping a 150-game losing streak when trailing by at least three touchdowns.

One bettor at DraftKings Sportsbook made a huge bet on the Giants before they officially completed their comeback.

While this bettor could’ve gotten the Giants at much longer odds when they were down 21 points, this was still a smart bet and a very impressive win. Next time the Cardinals are up double-digits, bettors will be trying to bet the opposing team’s live moneyline as fast as they can.

Puka Nacua for Offensive Rookie of the Year?

One of the biggest early-season surprises has been Los Angeles Rams’ rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua. With Cooper Kupp out with a hamstring injury, Nacua has emerged as Matthew Stafford’s favorite target. Through two weeks, he leads the NFL in receptions and is second in receiving yards.

Before the season, Nacua wasn’t listed at most sportsbooks for Offensive Rookie of the Year. As a fifth-round pick, he wasn’t on their radars to be much of an impact player this season.

But after two games, he’s emerged as an early contender. Currently at DraftKings Sportsbook, Nacua (+800) trails only Bijan Robinson (+175) and Anthony Ricahrdson (+225) in Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.
