NFL Weather Report and Forecast for Week 7: Significant weather conditions in San Francisco
Normally, I do not adjust rankings for skill players too much for the weather. But I will make an exception for what could be a drencher on Sunday night.
Indianapolis Colts at San Francisco 49ers (-4), O/U 42.5 | Sunday 8:20 PM ET
Every year, there is one game that sticks out because of the weather. The type of game where the conditions on the field more closely resemble a mud pit than one where guys who are getting paid millions … and millions … of dollars should step foot on without signing a waiver. The 2021-2022 NFL season will have a hard time topping what we might see coming Sunday night.
There is a high likelihood this will be the worst weather we have seen for a game since the slopfest that was the 2019 matchup between Washington and San Francisco, which ended 9-0. In fact, it might be pretty darn similar.
Sure, there is time for things to change, but the damage will have been done to the field even by kickoff. Rain is expected to move into the Santa Clara area as early as Saturday night, and once it starts, it’s not stopping. As a matter of fact, it will only intensify. By kickoff, we could see nearly three-quarters of an inch of precipitation already on the field. But the hardest rain of the system will hit during the game, nearing .2 tenths per hour.
Wind could further impact the game
It’s almost a mirror image of what we saw in Washington a few years back. The only difference will be the added wind, with sustained winds around 15 mph and gusts from 20 to 30+ at the game’s opening.
Add in the fact that Levi Stadium has been criticized before for its field conditions in the past, and we have a significant problem on our hands.
Traditionally, I rarely adjust rankings significantly for positional players based on weather. But here, I am making an exception. Guys like Jonathan Taylor and even Deebo Samuel are moving down my rankings. Still, I can’t recommend sitting them if you have them — just temper expectations for what could be a battle between the 30s.
NFL Weather Report and Forecast for Week 7 games: Chances of rain
While the attention will be on Sunday Night, there are a few other games with a chance of rain in Week 7.
Atlanta Falcons (-1.5) at Miami Dolphins, O/U 48 | Sunday 1:00 PM ET
This is your typical Florida rainstorm. While we are not expecting to see a significant amount of rain, there’s a chance we see some intermittent periods where it intensifies then falls off again. As always, when the temperatures increase midday, there is a chance for some isolated thunder and lightning.
In all fairness, I don’t think the weather could even impact Miami’s offense. They are a mess and face a Falcons team who had an extra week to prepare and get Calvin Ridley back. It’s hard to have any faith at all in anyone outside of Jaylen Waddle for the Dolphins.
New Orleans Saints (-4) at Seattle Seahawks, O/U 42.5 | Monday 8:15 PM ET
It’s a similar situation to San Francisco, just turned down from an 11 to about a 4. Rain will be in the area beginning Sunday, continuing on into Tuesday morning. From about noon through midnight Monday, rainfall totals shouldn’t exceed 0.02 to 0.04 inches per hour. We also expect to see some wind make its appearance with 15 to 20 mph winds and gusts up to 23 mph.
We did get news Saturday on whether Alex Collins will suit up, which is a bit surprising as he did not practice on Thursday or Friday (groin). I would be rather hesitant to play Collins this week given the injury and the addition of Rashaad Penny from IR, who could take some of the volume.
NFL Weather Report and Forecast for Week 7 games: Worry-free weather
With a handful of games popping up on the radar due to rainy conditions, the rest of the Week 7 calendar should be smooth sailing weather-wise.
Carolina Panthers (-3) at New York Giants, O/U 42.5 | Sunday 1:00 PM ET
I mean, honestly, what on Earth is going on with the Giants? Did Daniel Jones step on a crack? Did Joe Judge walk under a ladder? Does the entire organization owe money to a Voodoo priestess who is currently sitting in the bayou somewhere listening to some Bunk Johnson with a whole room full of dolls wearing Giants jerseys with enough needles in them to fund a nursing home?
Do you want to know how bad things are in the state of fantasy this week? Dante freaking Pettis is a borderline must-start. As for the Week 7 weather in East Rutherford, expect 61 degrees, sunny, with 6 mph winds.
New York Jets at New England Patriots (-7), O/U 42.5 | 1:00 PM ET
In a week where Damien Harris could have struggled due to injuries and a fumble, Bill Belichick doubled-down on his top RB. Harris toted the rock 18 times for 101 yards and a score. He now faces the Jets and their 32nd-ranked defense, which allows 32.84 fantasy points per game. Harris could go ballistic in Week 7.
Foxborough’s Week 7 weather forecast should feature sunny skies, 6 mph winds, and highs near 59 degrees.
Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) at Tennessee Titans, O/U 57.5 | Sunday 1:00 PM ET
Can anything stop Derrick Henry? I mean, outside of one of the Greek Gods literally coming down from their perch on Mount Olympus, Henry is going for 120+ yards. In fairness, he might be one of them living among us until proven otherwise. Just ask Josh Norman for his opinion.
As for the rest of the weather forecast in Nashville, expect mostly sunny skies, 8 mph winds, and 80-degree temperatures.
Washington Football Team at Green Bay Packers (-8.5), O/U 47.5 | Sunday 1:00 PM ET
All right, Bears fans, you can just scroll down to the next game. This one is fine for a quick TL;DR. Okay, now that they’re gone, was Aaron Rodgers telling the lady giving him the double bird and the entire Soldier Field crowd he owned them not the single greatest sound bite ever? He hits the discount double-check to perfection and then just goes right for the jugular. It’s moments like this why we love rivalries and when players are themselves on the field. Well, that is when the NFL allows them, I guess.
As for the game, start the usual suspects for Green Bay. Davante Adams and Aaron Jones have the chance to lead the week at their positions. As for Washington, Antonio Gibson has me nervous. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, I might throw out some fliers to see if you can find someone who believes he is more valuable than he is.
Expect 52-degree temperatures, 8 mph winds, and cloudy skies in Green Bay for Week 7.
Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (-6.5), O/U 45.5 | Sunday 1:00 PM ET
Lamar Jackson is just a short-distance passer. A runner who happens to be able to throw the ball. That’s what everyone wants to tell me. Would you be shocked if I told you Jackson is No. 1 in the NFL in average intended air yards per attempt (10.1) and completed air yards per attempt (8.1) according to NFL Next Gen Stats?
It’s not like he has the third-longest pass of the season in air yards or anything (60.8 yards). But yeah, he’s just a running QB. Got it.
Expect 67-degree temperatures, 5 mph winds, and partly sunny skies in Baltimore for Week 7.
Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-13), O/U 47 | Sunday 4:25 PM ET
Can we take a moment to talk about how we have reached peak silly season? I mean, this is the NFL. The best of the best. Yet, we have three spreads of 13 points or more. That’s stuff you see in college, not the NFL. This is one of those games. The others being J.J. Watt and DeAndre Hopkins’ revenge game vs. Houston and a battle of traded QBs with Matthew Stafford and the Rams vs. Jared Goff and the Lions.
Even with Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski out for the Buccaneers, give me the Bucs, because why not? Life is too short to bet on games being boring. Besides, that just means more fantasy points to go around.
As for the weather forecast in Week 7, expect temperatures around 52 degrees and 7 mph winds in Tampa.
Week 7 indoor games
The teams below will play in optimal conditions, and there will be no effect on the passing and kicking game.
Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Rams (-16)
O/U 50.5 | Sunday 4:05 PM ET
Philadelphia Eagles at Las Vegas Raiders (-3)
O/U 49 | Sunday 4:05 PM ET
Houston Texans at Arizona Cardinals (-18)
O/U 47.5 | Sunday 4:25 PM ET
