Is Russell Wilson a Better Signing Than Kirk Cousins? One NFL Star Thinks So

Kirk Cousins looks to be the top available QB with free agency set to begin. However, one NFL star thinks Russell Wilson may be a better option.

Russell Wilson’s disastrous Denver Broncos tenure has finally come to an end, as the team has decided to cut ties with the veteran quarterback ahead of NFL free agency.

After a disappointing two seasons in Denver, Wilson isn’t expected to have a very robust market in free agency, especially compared to Kirk Cousins, who is widely considered to be the best QB hitting the open market.

One NFL star, however, has made it clear that if he were running a team, he would prefer Wilson over Cousins, with the stark difference in salary demands being a major reason why.

Russell Wilson Over Kirk Cousins? One NFL Star Thinks So

While joining the cast of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, New England Patriots star pass rusher Matthew Judon shared his take on the free agent quarterbacks set to hit the open market. During that conversation, Judon shared an interesting opinion of which QB he prefers between Wilson and Cousins.

“I thought he was the best at the Ball until “Russerella” (Wilson),” Judon started. “His ’24 contract is already paid…why not go out there and try to find that glass shoe, bring him to a team that has a good wide receiver corps, good running back, stable offensive coordinator, and he can get y’all over the hump.

“He’s been there before, he’s won a lot of playoff games. If you have a good defense, he’s a good fit for your team, a God-fearing man, he’s a leader, you bring him in, and he’s already paid.

“You don’t have to pay him. You’re bringing in a proven veteran that you don’t really have to pay top dollar.”

It seems that most of Judon’s points for having Wilson over Cousins had more to do with the financial difference between the two options. With the Broncos deciding to cut Wilson early, the remaining money left on his deal will be paid out by them rather than his new team, setting up an easy contract situation for his next landing spot.

Cousins, meanwhile, will be in much higher demand, and as a result, could command upwards of $40 million per year. This is despite Cousins still working his way back from a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture, with no guarantees he will regain his form at 36 years old this upcoming season.

It’s an interesting take that many teams looking for a quarterback will need to juggle. But for Judon’s money, the choice is clear.
