It’s been tough sledding for Daniel Jones and the New York Giants lately. Despite winning a playoff game and advancing to the NFC Divisional Round in 2022 in head coach Brian Daboll’s first year, things have been less than smooth in the Big Apple. From personnel changes and injuries that have derailed progress, 2024 looks to be a pivotal year for the G-Men.
As they head into the new year looking to recapture what they had two seasons ago, the feeling around some in the NFL inner circles is that they may be trying to do so with a change at quarterback. Despite Jones receiving a new contract, according to one NFL insider, the feeling around the QB and his contract is that of regret.
Giants Done With Daniel Jones?
Long-time personality and NFL Network’s very own Rich Eisen may have his finger on the pulse just as well as anyone. After spending his usual week covering the NFL Combine, Eisen came back with some rather interesting information about the Giants and how they may feel about their starting quarterback.
“Number three of my top five rumors I heard at the Combine is the Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones,” Eisen began.
“Done. They might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it, and they feel, the words I heard at the Combine multiple times, two words were buyer’s remorse.”
This comes off the heels of Jones and the Giants — nearly one year ago, to the day –agreeing on a massive four-year, $160 million deal to keep Jones as New York’s QB of the future. Since then, Jones has torn his ACL, missed a majority of the 2023 season, and is currently still working to get back and be ready for the upcoming year.
In addition to missing most of last season, absence has been routine for Jones. He’s only played one full season with the Giants since being drafted in 2019.
If what Eisen is hearing is true, this would be a complete 180 in feelings in less than a calendar year. And with the amount of money and resources invested in Jones, it has a chance to have a rippling effect for the Giants.

With the NFL Draft just a month and a half away, it will be interesting to see if New York takes a quarterback either early or at all. If they do so, it would add further fuel to the fire of this eye-opening rumor.
A lot will be sorted out between now and Week 1 of the 2024 season, but it’s clear that the seat Jones sits in is far less comfortable now than he thought it would be less than a year ago.
