Floyd Mayweather Throws in His Hat for New York Giants Ownership

Late last year, rumors started swirling around the footballing world that the $7.65 billion franchise was looking to sell shares in the open market. Earlier this month, these were confirmed by a statement from the Giants to the New York Post.

“The Mara and Tisch families have retained Moelis & Company to explore the potential sale of a minority, non-controlling stake in the New York Giants,” the team said in the statement. “There will be no further comment in regard to the process.”

Now, per TMZ, Mayweather and his business partner, Meyer Orbach, are set to make a splash in New York and get their hands on 10% of the ownership of the Giants.

“My partners and I are always looking at different opportunities, including ownership of sports teams. I can’t comment further than that,” Orbach said.

Mayweather spent several years of his childhood in New Jersey and could use that string to diversify his investment portfolio.

Mayweather To Compete Against Eli Manning for the Giants’ Stake

The former five-time world champion in different weight classes will have to face off against two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning in his quest to own a piece of the Giants. The former QB has previously expressed his wish to become part-owner of the Giants.

“It’s definitely something of interest,” Manning said in an interview earlier this month. “There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing and it’s the one I played for for 16 years.”

“And it’s local and makes the most sense, but we’ve just got to figure out if they would ever sell a little bit.”

Now that the Giants are exploring a potential sale, Manning could join the likes of Tom Brady to become a player-turned-owner in the NFL.
