In recent weeks, there has been intense speculation that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is interested in Deion Sanders as head coach. However, NFL personality Ed Werder believes that “America’s Team” should head in a different direction, one that includes new University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick.
The Cowboys decided against extending the contract of longtime head coach Mike McCarthy. Furthermore, it was reported and later confirmed by Prime Time himself that he and Jones had discussed the possibility of him becoming the next head coach of the Cowboys.
What Does Ed Werder Believe Jerry Jones Should Do?
Werder made clear that he believed that Jones should make the move that displayed that he was fully committed to winning, something he thought would be represented by Jones hiring Belichick.
“There is one move #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can make that will demonstrate he’s fully committed to winning at any cost, willing to spend for the best in coaching and capable of relinquishing organizational control to do so. Pay the $10M buyout and hire Bill Belichick, who has the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history,” he stated.

Though this idea has not been too heavily rumored and seems quite unlikely at this point, it does present another potential avenue for the Cowboys to go in.
Belichick is the new head coach of the UNC Tar Heels and has been busy building out the rest of his coaching staff for this upcoming college football season. As a result, it does not seem likely that Belichick would consider a move to the Cowboys, nor are the Cowboys and Jones looking to engage in coaching discussions either.
Meanwhile, though, Sanders detailed the conversation with Jones did happen, he also made clear that he was still committed to the ongoing project with the Colorado Buffaloes. The situation seems to be quite complex as to how Sanders would become the next Cowboys boss.
However, the Sanders situation appears to be the more likelier of the two, as Prime Time played for the Cowboys during his playing days and won a Super Bowl with the franchise. In addition, he has a close relationship with Jones and has already made clear that there seems to be at least some form of mutual interest in the job when the two talked on the phone earlier in the week.
