With the Super Bowl not kicking off until next weekend, the 2024 NFL Pro Bowl games take center stage this weekend. How does the Pro Bowl voting work, and how did it shape the roster this year?

Let’s examine how the NFL determined who would face off for their respective conferences.

How Does the NFL Pro Bowl Voting Work?

So, how does the NFL determine who will be selected for the AFC and NFC’s Pro Bowl rosters?

The NFL opened the Pro Bowl voting on Monday, Nov. 27, during Week 12 of the season, and wrapped up on Monday, Dec. 25, during Week 16.

Fans could vote as many times as possible on NFL.com.

During the final two weeks of voting, fans could vote through X by tweeting a player’s first and last name, tagging a player’s official account, or a hashtag of the player’s first and last name. All three scenarios had to include the hashtag #ProBowlVote. Social votes counted as double on the final two days of voting.

A consensus vote of the fans, players, and coaches determines the player selections. Each group accounts for one-third of the votes. NFL players and coaches casted their votes on Dec. 29 this season. Also, reserves are voted for if the original selections can’t play.

Given the San Francisco 49ers having nine Pro Bowl selections (eight starters) and the Kansas City Chiefs having five, the Pro Bowl roster sees quite a shake-up with the franchises duking it out in Super Bowl 58. You can find the updated Pro Bowl roster here.
