NFL Pro Bowl 2024: Biggest Snubs Include Josh Allen and Antoine Winfield Jr.

The 2023 NFL regular season is coming to a close, meaning Pro Bowl rosters have been released. Who was inevitably snubbed this year?

The 2023 NFL regular season is coming to a close, and that means it’s time for the postseason. A big part of that is the Pro Bowl.

The 2024 Pro Bowl rosters have been officially released. However, there are only so many spots available. Who got snubbed?

Who Was Snubbed From the 2024 NFL Pro Bowl?

The most important position in football is the quarterback. With that importance, it also means the competition is strong. In the AFC, Tua Tagovailoa, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes made the cut. That means Josh Allen was left out, despite a strong season.

In 16 games, Allen passed for 3,947 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He also added 457 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. That adds up to 42 total touchdowns, which is the most in the NFL, four ahead of Jalen Hurts in second. Hurts was also left out of the Pro Bowl.

Mahomes, who made the Pro Bowl over Allen, has 15 fewer touchdowns than Allen. He has passed for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He’s added only 389 yards and zero touchdowns on the ground.

The next big Pro Bowl snubs are at safety. In the NFC, Budda Baker, Jessie Bates III, and Julian Love made the cut. In the AFC, it was Kyle Hamilton, Justin Simmons, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. This means Geno Stone and Antoine Winfield Jr. were both left out.

Winfield Jr. has three interceptions, five forced fumbles, four fumbles recovered, and five sacks. Baker, who made it, had zero in all of those stats. For Smith, he is second in the NFL in interceptions with seven, only behind DaRon Bland, who had eight.

At linebacker, there were multiple snubs. In just the AFC, Foyesade Oluokun, Zaire Franklin, and Quincy Williams were all left out. They were behind Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith, both of the Ravens. Franklin and Oluokun are first and third in the NFL in tackles with 170 and 166, respectively.

Williams, on the other hand, has 131 tackles, including 15 for a loss. He also has an interception and 10 pass deflections. According to Next Gen Stats, Williams leads all linebackers in stops with 93. He has been a key piece on the New York Jets’ defense.

Next up is wide receiver. In the NFC, both Amon-Ra St. Brown and Brandon Aiyuk were left out. They were behind CeeDee Lamb, A.J. Brown, and Puka Nacua. Detroit Lions receiver St. Brown has caught 112 passes for 1,371 yards and nine touchdowns, while Aiyuk has caught 72 for 1,317 yards and seven touchdowns.

Another major snub is Derrick Brown of the Carolina Panthers. Despite being on the two-win Panthers, he has been one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league. He has the most tackles of all interior linemen with 51 solo tackles. His 96 total tackles are two shy of the single-season record. The Panthers have no Pro Bowlers in 2024.

Some other snubs include tight end Evan Engram and running back Travis Etienne Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Engram leads the NFL in receptions by a tight end with 104 while Etienne leads the NFL in broken tackles with 86.

Offensive linemen deserve love too. Los Angeles Rams guard Kevin Dotson was snubbed from the Pro Bowl, with Zack Martin, Chris Lindstrom, and Landon Dickerson making it instead. He was traded to the Rams in August and has since allowed just seven QB hits. According to Pro Football Focus, Dotson has an 84.8 grade.

Special teams matter too, especially at kicker. Justin Tucker was this year’s AFC representative, despite a down season. Tucker has been successful on 86.1% of his field goals and 98% of his extra points. However, Dustin Hopkins of the Cleveland Browns has hit 91.7% of his field goals and 92.3% of his extra points. Hopkins is also 8-for-8 from 50+.

Despite all of these snubs, there are many more too. The Pro Bowl rosters are determined by consensus votes of fans, players, and coaches. Each group’s vote counted as one-third toward the determination of the teams.

The Pro Bowl will take place on Sunday, Feb. 4, the week before the Super Bowl. If any players either decide to not participate, are injured, or go to the Super Bowl, alternates will fill in their spots.
