NFL Player Guessing Game
Guess the mystery NFL player
Guess the mystery NFL player
It's a free daily puzzle from Pro Football Network (PFN) where you guess a mystery NFL player in eight tries — think Wordle, but for football, and a lot like the NBA’s Poeltl. Each guess is scored against the hidden player across six clues — team, division, position, jersey number, touchdowns, and experience — and a new player drops every day.
Type the name of any current NFL player to lock in a guess. The board compares your pick to the mystery player across six columns — Team, Division, Position, jersey Number, Touchdowns, and Experience — and color-codes each one to show how close you are. Read those clues, refine your next guess, and try to land the right player before your eight guesses run out.
You get eight guesses to identify the mystery player, who’s always a current-season NFL player. Every guess returns color and arrow clues across the six categories, so even a wrong guess narrows the field. The goal is to solve it in as few guesses as you can, since fewer guesses means a higher score.
Green means that detail is an exact match with the mystery player. In the Division column, yellow means you have the right conference but the wrong division. In the Number, Touchdowns, and Experience columns, yellow means you’re within two of the answer, and an arrow points you the right way — up if the correct number is higher than your guess, down if it’s lower. A box with no color means that clue isn’t close.
Yes. If the mystery player still has you stumped, a clue unlocks after your fifth guess to help you close it out. It’s optional — leaning on it trims your score for that game, so it comes down to a trade-off between solving the puzzle and topping the leaderboard.
Every game starts at 500 points and you keep as many as you can. You lose a point for each second on the clock, 25 points for every guess you use, and 100 points if you reveal the clue. The fastest, cleanest solves score highest — and that’s what climbs PFN’s daily leaderboard.
A fresh mystery player is posted every day, and it’s the same player for everyone. Miss a day? Head to the Archive to play puzzles you skipped, and keep your daily streak going — your current and longest streaks are tracked as you play.
The answer is always a current-season NFL player, not a retired legend — so the clues (team, division, position, number, touchdowns, and experience) reflect where a player stands right now. That keeps each daily puzzle solvable from this year’s rosters rather than decades of football history.
It’s completely free, and you can start guessing right away with no signup. Play it at profootballnetwork.com/nfl-hq/games/guessing-game in any browser, on phone or desktop. A free PFN account is optional — it saves your stats and puts you on the daily leaderboard.
Open with a well-known current starter so the first round of clues gives you plenty to work with. Use the arrows and the within-two hints to zero in on the number, touchdown, and experience columns, and let a green Team or Division shrink the pool fast. Save the fifth-guess clue for when you’re genuinely stuck, since it costs you points.
