With NFL offseason workouts in the form of minicamps underway for all 32 teams, the on-field work for the 2023 season is just heating up as organized team activities (OTAs) begin next week.
Coaches will get their first looks at draft picks, new additions, and the work the returners have done to be ready for the next season. While some of those offseason workouts began in April, the “main event” of the offseason program is OTAs, which are on the immediate horizon. Let’s take a look at the start date for all 32 NFL teams’ OTAs.
2023 NFL OTAs Start Date
The NFL recently announced the current plans for the full NFL offseason program for each team. The workout program spans nine weeks across three different phases. The final phase is up to 10 days of organized team activity or, as they are more commonly known, “OTAs.”

Are OTAs Mandatory?
OTAs are voluntary for all players. While there are mandatory parts of the workouts for some teams, those are during minicamps — not the OTA part of the offseason. Typically, we use OTA participation as a barometer for where some players are who may be in the midst of contract disputes, injury rehab, etc.

Teams cannot pressure players during non-mandatory workouts such as OTAs. If any club official indicates that failure to attend non-mandatory parts of the offseason could have an adverse effect on the player making the roster, it would be against the rules stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
