NFL MVP Odds: Is Lamar Jackson Guaranteed To Win the Award?

    Published on

Lamar Jackson is the heavy NFL MVP favorite heading into the final week of the regular season, with his betting odds indicating he's nearly guaranteed to win.

With the Baltimore Ravens clinching the top seed in the AFC last week, head coach John Harbaugh has made the decision to rest the majority of his starters today against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This includes QB Lamar Jackson, who will end his 2023 regular season with NFL MVP odds that indicate he will win the award for the second time in his career.

2023 NFL MVP Odds: Lamar Jackson Appears Certain To Win

Going into Week 18, Jackson has -10000 NFL MVP odds, making him a clear favorite with one week left in the regular season.

Jackson entered last week as an odds-on favorite but cemented his case with a flawless performance in a battle for the No. 1 seed in the AFC against the Miami Dolphins — throwing for 321 yards and five TDs with a perfect QB rating in a 56-19 win.

After missing a combined eight games due to injury in the last two years, Jackson had a sensational 2023 campaign. He led the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 16 games, which is the best in the NFL, threw for 3,678 yards while adding another 821 yards on the ground, and scored a combined 29 touchdowns.

Jackson entered the season with the six-shortest odds to win MVP at +1500. At the time, the argument in Jackson’s favor was the upgrade in the offensive scheme after they hired OC Todd Monken, which would be surrounded by the best supporting cast of wide receivers in his NFL career.

That’s why I and PFN Fantasy & Betting Analyst, Kyle Soppe, both picked Jackson to win the award.

If Jackson wins the award, then the streak of quarterbacks winning NFL MVP would increase to 12 consecutive seasons. He will also become the youngest player in NFL history to win their second MVP trophy, which comes after Jackson became the youngest player to win their first MVP back in 2019.

The youngest player to win MVP prior to Jackson was Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is currently the youngest player to become a two-time MVP as well, meaning Jackson would be breaking another record of his.
