NFL Legend Deion Sanders Reveals the One Major Change He Would Make to College Football

The man we all call Prime Time has opinions. And lots of them. And he takes great joy in putting them out into the ozone. To his credit, one of his biggest concerns these days is developing a proper respect for paychecks.

Deion Sanders Calls for Effort Toward Financial Literacy Among CFB Athletes

The mercurial NFL Hall of Famer and NCAA coach wants his players at the University of Colorado — or, for that matter, all college athletes — to prepare for their soon-to-be-inflated bank accounts, opining that money management lessons be a must for students.

“These kids should understand their money when they get their money. The NFL has handled it right, and we need to mimic the NFL. [The students] aren’t pros, but they’re semi-pros.”

This isn’t the first time Coach Prime has preached the importance of imparting wisdom about financial responsibility to teenagers and twentysomethings. Three months ago, he broke it down with Robert Griffin III:

“We prepare [our players] tremendously. One of my dearest friends, Richard Frayne … he was in banking for 25 years. I bring him in twice a year, not only to talk about financial literacy, but to teach these young men to establish LLCs to teach them all about the finances of life.”

    Protect Ya Neck

If you’re hip to Coach Prime’s attire during his playing career, you might think this is a do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do kind of deal. During his illustrious 14-year career, Sanders was known not just as a shut-down defensive back but also as a hardcore bling hound.

He has a legitimate reason behind his love for high-end shiny things.

“It’s so funny cause I used to wear a neck full of jewelry,” Sanders said. “And I wore it for a different reason because in my hood, that was looked up in as really being somebody. And I wanted the youngers to know that you can have all this and not sell dope.”

Since he took the job at Colorado in 2023, Sanders’ love for his team has been tangible and likely plays a role in the Buffaloes’ leap into the NCAA’s upper echelon. Currently sitting at 9-3 and poised for tonight’s Alamo Bowl appearance, Prime Time has made Colorado a destination for players looking to learn to play both football and the stock market.
