Patriots legend Bill Belichick is hyped up for his new gig at Chapel Hill as the new head coach of North Carolina. The veteran coach is about to start with his recruiting pitches as soon as the bowl weekend ends. While speaking to “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach claimed that his phone has been busy with calls and messages ever since he joined the program.
Bill Belichick Vows To Get Ready for Big Recruiting Cycle
After 24 years in New England, Belichick officially bid farewell to the NFL this season. For several weeks, there had been speculation around the legendary coach’s future in the football world.
After a few cameos in the broadcasting industry, UNC made the announcement that the program had hired Belichick to take over the reins post-Mack Brown’s dismissal.
On Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” the 72-year-old coach reflected on his journey and shared his plans moving forward. The first and foremost being the roster management and recruiting new talents to build a legacy team.
“There’s been a lot of guys contacting us wanting to come to North Carolina..
My Instagram account has been busy and I never thought I’d be saying that 😂😂

“The whole month of January is a big recruiting month,” Belichick said on the show. “We are definitely recruiting. There are a lot of guys in the portal. There are a lot of people contacting us. They want to come to Carolina.
“My Instagram account has been busy. I’ve been scrolling through that. I never thought I’d say that, but here I am. I’m joining the 21st century. We have big weekends coming up. We got a lot of guys coming in to visit. It’s been fun. I’ve really enjoyed it.
“We’ll just take them as they come. … We are already working on the 2026 high school class. There’s still some portal that will be left over. We’ll start the offseason program with the players that we have and get things to roll there. It’s a big month for us,” he added.
When it comes to coaching staff, Belichick has almost finalized the spots, with son Stephen Belichick being the defensive coordinator and retaining interim coach Freddie Kitchens at the program.
The offensive coordinator spot is still vacant, and there is a real possibility that Belichick fills it soon with an NFL-worthy candidate.
