Expectations are sky high with Belichick’s arrival as the Tar Heels’ next head coach. The changes have been evident — the veteran has been undertaking major revamps to the staff before taking on the players and strategies for the upcoming season.

While speaking to former Colts punter Pat McAfee on his show, the 72-year-old coach mentioned that he was looking to involve more experienced staff: “I’ll really start to move this week and next week. A lot of coaches that are potentially available that’ll be on the staff are either still involved in college football bowl games, playoffs, or they’re still involved in the NFL, which we still have another week of the regular season.

“And then some of them are in the playoffs as well, so we’ll see how that plays out. But there will be a strong NFL presence on the staff, but not exclusively. We have some other people, too, that we’re working on,” Belichick said.

“So, trying to put together the best that we can, coaches that’ll help the players and help produce winning football at Carolina. That’s what we’re there for; we’re there to help the players,” he added.

Belichick had also mentioned previously that he will be retaining interim coach Freddie Kitchens at UNC since he also has prior experience working with the Cleveland Browns in 2019.

Similarly, there have also been reports of his son Stephen Belichick joining the staff as defensive coordinator. He has had past experience of getting trained under his dad during their time together with the New England Patriots. No doubt, Belichick is looking to build a dynasty, more likely a Nick Saban-type effect in the college arena.
