The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback room will look vastly different in 2025. Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, and Nick Mullens have all agreed to terms with new teams, leaving J.J. McCarthy as the only familiar face.
With McCarthy coming off a torn knee, rumors of Minnesota pursuing four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers have been swirling. However, multiple NFL insiders suggest the Vikings have faith in their second-year quarterback and may not pursue Rodgers.

Vikings Reportedly Not Interested in Aaron Rodgers
Since Rodgers was informed by the New York Jets and head coach Aaron Glenn that they were moving on and designating him as a post-June 1 cut, speculation has grown that the veteran could follow Brett Favre’s career path even further by joining the Vikings.
Both quarterbacks were traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets, and now, with Rodgers as a free agent, the possibility of him making the same move as Favre remains.
However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that the Vikings are unlikely to pursue Rodgers and are focused on developing McCarthy.
“I’m told from sources that Rodgers does have standing offers from the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. Teams are waiting this out, waiting on Rodgers. The feeling is there’s not just a money consideration here. There’s fit, there’s surroundings, all those things.
“Minnesota Vikings are sort of on the periphery here. Sources there tell me that it’s possible they get involved with Rodgers, but the feeling this week has been probably not. They want to develop J.J. McCarthy.”

Adding further doubt to the Rodgers-Vikings speculation, Denver Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright put it more bluntly, stating that Minnesota has “no interest” in signing Rodgers.
“I’ll be more blunt. The Vikings have no interest in Aaron Rodgers despite his interest in them.”

While there’s precedent for an aging veteran thriving in Minnesota after struggling in New York, Rodgers’ chances of following in Favre’s footsteps appear slim if the Vikings are committed to McCarthy.
According to a report from The Athletic, Rodgers is interested in signing with Minnesota and has been waiting for them to make a decision. However, if the latest insider reports are accurate, he will likely have to choose between the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, or retirement.
With Rodgers seemingly out of the picture, Minnesota’s remaining veteran options include Joe Flacco, Ryan Tannehill, Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston, and Drew Lock. Other lower-cost options could include Trey Lance, Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, Easton Stick, or Desmond Ridder.
