NFL Insider Reveals That 381-TD Quarterback Has No Clear Landing Spot As QB Carousel Begins to Turn

Quarterbacks are a premium commodity in the NFL. With the position more valuable than ever, teams need a stable answer—and fast. As a result, the margin for error has become slimmer, leading to many quarterbacks being discarded quickly.

One such name could join the list in 2025, according to a reputed NFL insider and analyst. A former Super Bowl winner, it would mark a dramatic fall from grace for one of the game’s most innovative quarterbacks.

Russell Wilson Without a Team in 2025?

Russell Wilson burst onto the scene as a surprising star for the Seattle Seahawks. Once he became the starter, the team never looked back. His partnership with head coach Pete Carroll led to multiple Super Bowl appearances, including a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.

However, Wilson’s stock has dropped in recent years. After his time with the Seahawks, he meandered from the Denver Broncos to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent the 2024 season. Now, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Wilson’s time under Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may be coming to an end.

“If Pittsburgh holds onto Fields, it’s hard to figure where Russell Wilson lands,” Breer wrote. Even if the Steelers don’t retain Fields, Breer is unsure whether Wilson still has a home in the league.

“And even in the scenario where Fields departs, and the Steelers can’t afford to sign Darnold, I could see Pittsburgh exploring other options before revisiting Wilson,” Breer added.

After back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, it has been a swift fall for the 10-time Pro Bowler. Once his production in Seattle began to decline, Wilson moved to Denver. But after struggling with the Broncos, he was traded to the Steelers.

In 11 games with Pittsburgh, Wilson threw for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, those numbers didn’t translate to success on the field, as the Steelers ended the season on a five-game losing streak.

Despite a promising start, Pittsburgh fizzled out in the Wild Card Round. While Breer is skeptical about Wilson’s future, Pro Football and Sports Network is more optimistic. Ben Rolfe of PFSN believes Wilson could still land on a team—and has a surprising suggestion in mind.

Despite holding the first overall pick, Rolfe suggests the Tennessee Titans might consider signing Wilson as a bridge quarterback before their rookie takes over. “Wilson would bring stability to the quarterback room and is not someone who will frustrate the fanbase with erratic throws,” Rolfe wrote.

Ranked 81st on PFSN’s list of top 100 free agents, Wilson is no longer a priority for most teams. However, with several franchises struggling to find reliable quarterback play, a landing spot for the former Walter Payton Man of the Year remains a possibility.
