The New York Giants released quarterback Daniel Jones in the middle of the 2024 NFL season because their offense struggled mightily.
But even after moving on from Jones, the offense didn’t improve much with Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock under center. Both quarterbacks showed flashes, but neither proved to be a long-term answer. Now, the Giants are in the market for a new quarterback this offseason.
NFL insider Connor Hughes reports that the Giants have two veteran quarterbacks at the top of their free-agent list. The question is whether those quarterbacks see New York as their best landing spot. According to Hughes, the Giants have their sights set on Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson as their preferred veteran options.

New York Giants’ Quarterback Search
The Giants need to solidify their quarterback situation if they want any chance of success next season. Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen could find themselves on the hot seat if they don’t make the right decision. According to Hughes, Rodgers and Wilson are at the top of their wish list.
“Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback the Giants want. They’re waiting to find out if he wants them. Most league sources I touch base with believe Rodgers is headed to Steelers, which would lead the Giants to Russell Wilson. The problem: The Titans, and others, are interested in Wilson, too,” Hughes reported.
Rodgers appears to be the Giants’ top target, but after his brief stint with the Jets—and a torn Achilles suffered on the MetLife turf—he may be looking elsewhere. While it’s possible that his injury history won’t deter him from signing with the Giants, he has been strongly linked to the Steelers. As Hughes suggests, Pittsburgh remains the favorite to land Rodgers.
If Rodgers doesn’t choose New York, the Giants will pivot to Wilson. But that presents another challenge — Wilson has other suitors. He spent time with the Steelers last season, so they could be in the mix as well. The Titans, who hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, also have the option of signing a veteran or drafting a quarterback. With multiple teams interested in Wilson, the Giants face stiff competition.
New York is in a tough spot as quarterbacks continue to come off the market. Sam Darnold landed with the Seattle Seahawks, Justin Fields joined the New York Jets, and Geno Smith signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Matthew Stafford was rumored to be an option for the Giants, but he’s staying put with the Los Angeles Rams. If New York can’t land Wilson or Rodgers, the draft could be their best option.
The Giants remain hopeful that they can sign one of their top targets, but options are running out. The quarterback carousel is spinning, and the Giants need to make a move soon before all of their choices are gone.
