Former New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick is in unfamiliar territory — unemployed. While the legendary NFL head coach won’t be coaching in 2024, it has been reported that multiple teams have already expressed interested in hiring Belichick for 2025.
Teams Have Expressed Interest in Hiring Bill Belichick for 2025
Hours ahead of Super Bowl 58, NFL Network reported that multiple owners reached out to Belichick about “next year’s hiring cycle.”

“He is 15 wins shy of breaking Don Shula’s all-time wins record, including the playoffs, and he is motivated to get that record,” said insider Tom Pelissero.
Which teams could Pelissero be referring to? According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, three teams that could make sense, depending on how their 2024 campaigns go, are the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears.
Before they both decided to retain their current head coaches for next season, the Eagles and Cowboys were speculated as two logical spots for Belichick this coaching cycle.
While both teams ended the 2023 season in major disappointment, they have two of the best rosters in the NFL, and would each present an immediate opportunity for Belichick to compete for another Super Bowl.
Belichick, 71, has not mentioned the possibility of retiring since mutually agreeing to part ways with the Patriots on Jan. 11.
Despite there being seven teams with a head coaching vacancy — not including the Patriots — Belichick only interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons, but they opted to hire former Los Angeles Rams DC Raheem Morris instead.
What’s Next for Belichick in 2024?
We’ve seen coaches across the world of sports go into the broadcasting field during their absence from coaching, with Sean Payton being the most recent before taking a job as head coach of the Denver Broncos.
Although there haven’t been any reports about him transitioning to media this upcoming season, whether it’s as a color commentator or a studio analyst, Belichick could be interested in such an opportunity.

Despite the lack of interest in Belichick this coaching cycle, it seems apparent that he will be back on the sidelines in 2025 and beyond, chasing both Shula’s record and his seventh Super Bowl trophy.
