NFL Insider Explains Why New York Giants Are ‘Ideal Fit’ for $49.6 Million Pro Bowl QB This Offseason

The New York Giants need a new signal-caller for the 2025 season -- one NFL insider has a former Super Bowl champ that could change the tides.

The New York Giants are in a bit of a mess in 2025. They have no quarterback plan in place, and their offensive line was a bottom-six unit. The offensive line and quarterback are the biggest needs by some distance, and one NFL insider believes that Los Angeles Rams’ veteran QB Matthew Stafford could move the needle for them.

NFL Insider Reveals Why Matthew Stafford Is the Answer to New York Giants’ woes

Stafford has been the face of the Rams since arriving in 2021, leading them to a Super Bowl that same year. The former No. 1 overall pick finished last season with a QB+ rating of 71.9 (C-).

But with the Rams possibly preparing for a transitional phase and Stafford owning one of the most expensive contracts in the NFL, a $49.6 million cap into the 2025 campaign, discussions about a potential move have begun to heat up.

The possibility of Stafford being traded comes amid another major development for the Rams. The team recently announced that they were looking to move on from star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, a decision that shocked both fans and players in the locker room.

While plenty of teams could use Stafford’s arm talent and championship experience, a not-so-surprising new suitor has emerged in trade talks. NFL insider Albert Breer discussed a potential move for Stafford to the Giants in his mailbag and believes he could be the ideal fit for their offensive struggles.

“I actually really like the New York Giants as a landing spot for Stafford — they might be second to the Pittsburgh Steelers for me as an ideal fit. In New York, I think the Los Angeles Rams QB would be joining a team that’s much closer than people think.

“They’ve got a franchise left tackle (Andrew Thomas) and budding No. 1 receiver (Malik Nabers) on offense, and a defense that’s well-built around three cornerstones (Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux) along the front. They also have some financial wiggle room to land Stafford, then use Stafford to lure more veterans.

“Add to that the fact that you’ve got some folks there that’ll be fighting for their jobs in the fall, and are under a fair amount of pressure to find a quarterback after the Daniel Jones contract didn’t work out, and I could see the Giants acting with some urgency.”

After choosing Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkleythe Giants not only cut Jones from the roster but also had to watch Barkley join a division rival and win the Super Bowl while setting the all-time rushing record in a single season. As Breer said, the coaching staff will need to act with urgency. Otherwise, it is hard to envision the Giants as playoff contenders in 2025.
