NFL Insider Adam Caplan Has the Chiefs Going WR in the First Round of Latest Mock Draft

The 2024 NFL Draft is just a week away, meaning we’ll soon find out what the Kansas City Chiefs will do with the 32nd overall pick.

The Chiefs are hoping to become the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls, and like they have the previous two NFL Drafts, they’ll need to find immediate contributors to help them accomplish their goal.

In Pro Football Network’s NFL Insider Adam Caplan’s latest 2024 NFL Mock Draft, he has the Chiefs using their first-round pick on a dynamic weapon for Patrick Mahomes.

NFL Insider Adam Caplan Has Chiefs Drafting WR Brian Thomas Jr.

With the No. 32 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, NFL insider Adam Caplan has mocked LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. to the Chiefs.

The 6’3″, 209-pound junior from LSU appeared in 35 games for the Tigers in his three seasons in school. In his final year, he started all 13 games and was named second-team All-SEC. He had only 59 catches in his first two seasons, but he exploded onto the scene last year with 68 catches for 1,177 yards and an NCAA-high 17 touchdowns.

Despite playing a lot of college football, Thomas is still just 21 years old and gives the Chiefs another receiver at a position of need.

Despite the Super Bowl win last year, the wide receiver room is definitely in a position where the Chiefs need to get better. For much of the regular season, the receivers were making mistakes that were costing the team games. Whether it was receivers lining up offsides, or dropping potential game-winning catches, there were times when Mahomes was extremely frustrated with his group.

Rashee Rice began to emerge as a go-to threat late in the season and in the playoffs, but his status for the start of the year is in question as he is facing multiple felonies for his role in an automobile accident in Dallas.

The team signed Marquise “Hollywood” Brown this offseason, but there is still a need for improvement at the position. Thomas is a combination of size and speed, and that helped him pair with Malik Nabers as the best receiver duo in college football last season. Since the trading away of Tyreek Hill two seasons ago, the team has been looking for that next star receiver.

Caplan said that Thomas has a chance to be the Chiefs’ “X” receiver for the foreseeable future. The receiver class in this draft is loaded, as there are talented receivers all across the board. For Kansas City to get a guy that has the potential of Thomas would have Mahomes and Chiefs fans very excited as they start their quest for a three-peat.
