NFL Insider Names 2 Teams Interested in Ex-Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy's departure from the Dallas Cowboys opened up new doors for him as one NFL insider pointed out two teams interested in the HC.

Mike McCarthy tenure with the Dallas Cowboys ended after five years of service. Per reports, both parties could not agree to the details of a contract that will end on Jan. 14, 2025.

McCarthy is now free to pursue other jobs in the NFL. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, two teams have expressed interested in acquiring McCarthy.

Mike McCarthy Has NFL Teams Interested

Rapoport took to X (formerly Twitter) and stated that after McCarthy couldn’t get a renewed deal with Dallas, there are two potential places he could land at the moment: The New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears. Not surprisingly, both make sense for the 61-year-old.

While Cowboys fans are already hyping up their possible next head coach, it’s time for McCarthy to think about his future. He was the offensive coordinator for the Saints from 2000-2004. In his five seasons with New Orleans, he guided the team to some exceptional offensive displays.

His familiarity with the city and the ownership will be a bonus point as the franchise looks to rebuild despite being in a cap constraint.

The Bears, on the other hand, had requested an interview with McCarthy last week. However, they were denied by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Now that McCarthy is a free agent, he is free to pursue that job.

He has been regarded as a QB-friendly head coach and this could be attractive for the Bears, considering Caleb Williams is on their roster.

    Colin Cowherd Predicts McCarthy’s Future

NFL analyst Colin Cowherd, upon learning the news that the Cowboys and McCarthy had parted ways, considered it a blessing for the HC. “In my opinion, the winner here is Mike McCarthy,” said Cowherd during his eponymous show on FS1. “Dallas did not have a talented roster.”

“The one thing that eliminates winning a Super Bowl is not a rookie quarterback or a young quarterback. You don’t even have to be great at quarterback. You can’t pay a B quarterback A+ quarterback money or you’re out.”

“That’s where Dallas is. Mike McCarthy, for all the criticism, he won with Favre, he won with Aaron, he’s won with Dak, he’s won with Cooper Rush! Chicago Bears, Mike McCarthy…I’ll go on record right now.”
