With the 2022 preseason schedule continuing on, are there any NFL games being played today, Sunday, Aug. 21? As we enter Week 2 of the NFL preseason, what does today’s slate have in store?
NFL games on TV today | Sunday, Aug. 21
There are three NFL games today, all three of which can be found on national television.
Philadelphia Eagles at Cleveland Browns
Time: 1 p.m. ET
TV channel: NFL Network
Live stream: Paramount+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+
With news breaking earlier this week that Deshaun Watson’s suspension has been increased to 11 games, and with that matter settled, the focus for Cleveland will be on ensuring the offense is ready to roll with Jacoby Brissett under center. Brissett will have an impressive top trio of weapons in Amari Cooper, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt and a well-fortified offensive line at his disposal, but building a rapport with these players will still be critical to his success.
For Philadelphia, keep an eye on the running back room, a unit that has received plenty of interest amongst fans and fantasy football players alike. Miles Sanders is still the leading man, but Kenneth Gainwell should make a push to be more involved than he was in his rookie season.
Cincinnati Bengals at New York Giants
Time: 7 p.m. ET
TV channel: NFL Network
Live stream: Paramount+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+
Joe Burrow will most likely be kept in bubble wrap as much as possible leading up to Week 1 given his offseason appendectomy. But, as established last season, this Bengals offense doesn’t need much “rapport building” like their Ohioan counterparts.
New York, on the other hand, could use some greasing of the wheels. Brian Daboll’s new offensive scheme will play a critical role in the future of Daniel Jones and the careers of many in his supporting cast. Some may need a shot to push their careers to the next level (Kadarius Toney) while others need to see success to revive their future career prospects altogether (Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay).
Baltimore Ravens at Arizona Cardinals
Time: 8 p.m. ET
TV channel: FOX
Live stream: Paramount+, Vidgo, fuboTV, NFL+
While Lamar Jackson’s contract negotiation is taking up plenty of brain space among those invested in Ravens football, there’s plenty more beneath the surface worthy of highlighting.
One of my favorite storylines: rookie tight end Isaiah Likely. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, Likely looked like the second coming of Mark Andrews in last week’s game against the Tennessee Titans. As my colleague Oliver Hodgkinson would say, it’s “likely” the former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer is a big part of Baltimore’s offense this season.
With Arizona already having taken care of a contract dispute with its own franchise quarterback, the team is heading into the season with a slightly lower profile in a division that already boasts the current Super Bowl champions. And wouldn’t you know it, the Cardinals have a highly touted rookie TE of their own to watch out for — second-round pick Trey McBride. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed that McBride, the first tight end selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, is set to make his preseason debut this week.
