Former New York Jets pass-rusher Bryce Huff is expected to be pursued by the Philadelphia Eagles when free agency begins, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Philadelphia Eagles Expected To Pursue Bryce Huff in Free Agency
Huff, 25, signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis following the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed a standard three-year UDFA deal.
New York re-signed him as a restricted free agent in April and opted not to use the franchise tag on Huff last week, giving him the freedom to test the open market.
In 2023, Huff appeared in 17 games for the Jets and recorded 10 sacks and 29 tackles.
In four seasons, he racked up 17.5 sacks, 43 quarterback hits, and 17 tackles for loss. He is coming off of a career campaign in 2023 where he recorded his first double-digit sack season, leading the team.
New York has yet to turn up the aggression in its contract discussions with Huff and his representatives. Instead, they plan on letting him hit the open market and allowing him to find out his value.
Steve Gelbs of SNY said, “It’s been trending this way for a while [regarding Bryce Huff]. If he does indeed go elsewhere, it’s difficult to wrap my head around. The Jets have been looking for an edge rusher of his ilk for decades. To find him, develop him and let him walk at 25-years-old is hard to justify.”
According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Huff is going to have a “robust” market, and the Eagles plan to make him one of the first players they contact when the legal tampering period begins Monday.
“Everything I’ve heard is that Bryce Huff’s market is going to be robust — and that the Eagles are going to make Huff one of their first calls when the tampering period opens on Monday,” Rosenblatt wrote.
Russini added that the Eagles have been shopping pass rushers Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick, and it is anticipated that they will “aggressively pursue” Huff in free agency.
In his last three seasons, Sweat has put together 25 sacks, 59 QB hits, and 29 tackles for loss. He has been one of Philadelphia’s more productive pass rushers since being drafted.
Sweat is entering the final year of the three-year, $40 million extension he signed during the 2021 season and is set to have a salary cap hit of just over $9 million in 2024.
