Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s season ended with a heartbreaking loss against the Washington Commanders. Yet, the bad days for the Lions continue.
After star offensive coordinator Ben Johnson took the head coaching job with the Chicago Bears, the Lions lost their defensive line coach, Terrell Williams, to the New England Patriots. NFL fans took this opportunity to clown on Campbell and the Lions.
Terrell Williams’ Departure Leads NFL Fans To Joke at Dan Campbell and Lions’ Expense
Not even 24 hours passed after Johnson left Motown and fans had to brace for Williams’ departure as well. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has hired Williams to be New England’s new defensive coordinator in Foxborough, to which ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the news on X (formerly Twitter).
“Lions defensive line coach Terrell Williams, who worked with Mike Vrabel in Tennessee from 2018-2023, is leaving Detroit to become the Patriots defensive coordinator, sources tell Mike Reiss and me.
“Vrabel thought so highly of Williams that he had him serve as head coach of the Titans’ 2023 preseason opener. Lions are losing another assistant coach,” he tweeted.

Campbell Assures Fans That Super Bowl Is Still Within Detroit’s Reach
Campbell undertook one of the greatest resurgences of any franchise in football. However, after two brilliant seasons, the Lions have fallen short of grabbing the ultimate prize. Many have started to wonder whether Detroit can still achieve that goal as the team and the coaches are ripped apart.
After their loss against the Commanders in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Campbell addressed these worries to the media.
“That core group is still intact and some of these guys are now — we’ve signed some back, some are up on contracts and that’ll be ongoing. But yeah, we absolutely do (have a window to contend still),” Campbell said.
