‘Jerry Jones Is Already on the Phone’ — NFL Fans Throw Wild Theory in the Air as New York Giants Say Goodbye to Daniel Jones

    Published on

The release of Giants QB Daniel Jones has sparked debate whether Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys should come calling.

On Friday morning, the New York Giants made headlines by releasing former starting quarterback Daniel Jones. After an extremely disappointing start to the season, one that saw the Giants in last place in the NFC East with a 2-8 record, Jones was benched this week in favor of third-string QB Tommy DeVito.

Due to the nature of his four-year, $160 million contract, Jones is expected to easily clear waivers, resulting in the former sixth overall pick in 2019 becoming a free agent early next week. As a result, rumors have begun swirling about potential late-season suiters for the talented Duke University product.

Fans Believe Daniel Jones Will Have Another Job Soon

Since the news broke, NFL fans have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express where they believe Jones will land after the dust settles.

One user jokingly remarked Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will most likely overpay for the quarterback’s talents, stating, “Jerry jones is already on the phone to overpay him to come to the @dallascowboys.”

Another social media user took a more serious tone in expressing their desire to see the Cowboys find a serviceable quarterback for the remainder of the season. The fan stated, “If Jerry Jones doesn’t sign Daniel Jones and start him against the Giants on Thanksgiving he’s fully lost his fastball.”

Should Jones Be the Quarterback for America’s Team?

While it is highly improbable that Jones will be the quarterback of the future for the Cowboys, he does have the potential to improve the ever-growing struggles in Arlington, Texas, for this season.

“America’s Team” has had a season to forget, primarily due to a dysfunctional offense and the season-ending hamstring injury to star quarterback Dak Prescott.

Though Jones’ 8-7 touchdown-to-interception rate and 82.9 QB rating do not inspire much confidence in his abilities, he is a serviceable NFL quarterback who has shown on occasion his ability to play strong and efficient football. In addition, the struggles of interim Cowboys QB Cooper Rush have only added to the Jones-to-Jones interest rumors.

In two games as a starter this season, Rush has thrown two touchdowns and two interceptions, leading the Cowboys to an abysmal 0-2 record during that span.

While it remains to be seen whether the QB Jones commits his future to the Cowboys or whether the GM Jones will even consider the chance to sign the former Giant, it is clear that football fans are interested in seeing how this saga develops.
