‘Fakest 8-0 Team Ever’ — NFL Fans React as Chiefs Survive Buccaneers 30-24 in Overtime To Continue Winning Streak

    Published on

With an overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Kansas City Chiefs are now 8-0, but some NFL fans remain unconvinced.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24 in overtime on Monday Night Football. Kareem Hunt scored a goal-line walk-off touchdown, and the Chiefs improved to 8-0 on the season. Kansas City has not lost since last season’s Week 16, where they suffered a shocking 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the defending Super Bowl champions’ 8-0 start to the season, some fans are not impressed.

Fans React to Chiefs’ OT Win vs. Buccaneers

Some fans are not buying the Chiefs’ hype and believe Patrick Mahomes’ team is not the best in the NFL. Here’s how those fans reacted on social media:

“When the refs are on your side, you never lose,” said one fan after the officials missed a call on Jawaan Taylor in overtime.

“Missed a false start the play before that was so obvious,” said another fan in complaint of the call on Taylor.

Idk which team is more of a fraud. This Chiefs team or the 2020 Steelers when they went 11-0 and lost in the playoffs,” said another fan.

“The officials miss calls against the Chiefs all the time. Nothing new,” added a fan.

This Chiefs win was similar to most of their games this season. Since it was a prime-time matchup, fans on social media will not wait to find the smallest of reasons to discredit their success.

The officials’ missed call on Taylor was certainly a mistake, but similar things happen in every game across the league. Calling the Chiefs “frauds” after they have won the last two Super Bowls and are 8-0 to start the season despite having one of the toughest schedules in the league is certainly quite intriguing.

Comparisons with the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers, who started the season 11-0, are also pointless. Kansas City is a modern-day dynasty, and they have proved that they usually play better when it matters the most — the playoffs.

Patrick Mahomes Had His Best Game of the 2024 NFL Season

Mahomes has had a sluggish start to the season, but he played his best game of the year against the Buccaneers. He completed 34 of his 44 throws for 291 yards and three touchdowns with a passer rating of 116.8.

This was the Chiefs quarterback’s first game this season in which he did not throw an interception. Mahomes also suffered an ankle injury during the game, but he did not miss any snaps and led his team to another win.

DeAndre Hopkins also had a big game, finishing with eight receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Hopkins celebrated his first touchdown for the Chiefs with a tribute to his former team, which also caught traction on social media.

Travis Kelce is another player who faced criticism this season for his lack of production. He also had a solid outing tonight, finishing with a career-high 14 receptions for 100 yards on 16 targets.

The Chiefs will play the Denver Broncos at home next week, and this game has been labeled as a trap game since the schedule came out. Denver is 5-3 on the season, and it will be interesting to see whether Kansas City will go 9-0 or suffer its first defeat of the year.
