Fans Pitch Names To Challenge Anthony Richardson After Chris Ballard’s Comments

The Colts are ready to shake stuff up in the QB room. After GM Ballard’s comments, fans have already suggested potential targets to bring in some competition for Richardson.

Ballard acknowledged the need for an upgrade, especially with Richardson struggling to stay healthy (an issue that’s kept him off-field for a full 17-game stretch).

Mac Jones or Justin Fields would be a perfect fit,” one fan said, pointing to the young talent who could bring stability to Indy.

Others, however, suggested more unconventional options like Darnold. “They need a QB that can actually throw a football to the room,” said another, adding that veteran names like Kirk Cousins or Derek Carr aren’t what the Colts need.

Despite the criticisms, some fans are defending Richardson, with one pointing out how difficult it is to stay healthy when your coach benches you mid-season.

“Yes very hard to stay healthy and start all games when your own coach benched you,” wrote the fan.

Another commented, “Not sure anyone will want to play for that franchise until Ballard is gone 🤷🏻‍♂️.”

The real question is whether Ballard can deliver on his promise to address the team’s roster failures.

Ballard Faces Reality: Colts GM Takes Blame for Struggles

Ballard is holding himself accountable in the most brutal way possible. With the Colts coming off yet another underwhelming season, the GM didn’t beat around the bush. He admitted he’s been “hardheaded and stubborn” in his approach.

That’s putting it lightly. With a 62-69-1 record in his first eight years and zero AFC South titles, fans have every right to throw shade.

“I don’t blame them for being pissed and questioning,” Ballard said, fully aware of the skeptical looks from Indy’s faithful. “They should. They should question — means they care, but that also means they’re not happy with our performance. … I need to earn their trust back.”

But here’s the kicker: despite all the frustration, owner Jim Irsay still wants him around.

“Fix it,” Irsay’s message read loud and clear.

“I’ve got to own all of that, I do,” Ballard said of his middling résumé. “I’m not gonna run from it, but I’ve definitely gotta own it because it’s real. It is the truth. I’m disappointed. I think y’all know me well enough to know I’m extremely hard on myself. I care deeply about this organization, this city. I want to do well for them.”

The Colts have a lot of work ahead, and the clock’s ticking for Ballard to deliver on his promise.
