‘Buddy Go and Retire’ — Titans Fans Shutdown Possibility of Aaron Rodgers Playing for Tennessee After 4-Time MVP’s Latest Comments

    Published on

The Titans fans expressed their disinterest in Aaron Rodgers playing for their team after the Jets QB recently made some comments on Tennessee.

Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets has been far from ideal. He suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last year on his first drive as the team’s quarterback. Despite that, there was a lot of excitement about how the team would look with him in 2024.

Unfortunately, the Jets have looked even worse with Rodgers than with Zach Wilson. The team is 4-11 on the season, and the four-time NFL MVP could be heading toward the exit.

In his latest weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers praised the state of Tennessee. His comments fueled rumors about his potential interest in playing for the Tennessee Titans next year.

Titans Fans React to Aaron Rodgers’ Comments on Tennessee

The Jets quarterback didn’t directly say anything about the AFC team, but his comments, like always, were enough to generate buzz around the topic.

“Shout out to the great state of Tennessee,” Rodgers said. “Phenomenal state, great people out there, no state income tax, and a lot of great country music down there.”

It might be true that Rodgers is interested in playing for the Titans in 2025, but the team’s fans are not looking forward to his experience as the quarterback in Tennessee.

Here’s how some of them reacted to rumors of the 10-time Pro Bowler potentially joining the Titans:

“Titans, don’t you even think about it,” said one fan.

“Too late. Three years ago would have been great!” another fan said about Rodgers’ potential move to the Titans.

“Stop, we do not want him,” wrote a fan.

Another fan added, “His best days are behind him. I feel like he would ask for too much. We need a bridge QB until we have a good QB available in the draft.”

The Titans are 3-12 on the season and have already benched Will Levis. They will be in the hunt for a new quarterback next year, and based on their current record, they are positioned with the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Titans have games remaining against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. They can defeat the Jaguars, but it will ruin their chances of drafting a quarterback high in next year’s draft if they want. If Tennessee falls out of the position to get the quarterback of their choice, there’s a probability they could go for Rodgers.

Rodgers will be an upgrade at the quarterback position for the Jets as he is still playing better than Levis and Mason Rudolph, as evidenced by their QB+ grades according to Pro Football Network’s metrics. The Titans have a pretty good defense, which would have been even better if their quarterbacks played better.

However, it’s not wise to talk about Rodgers’ future yet, as the future Hall of Famer could even end up retiring after this season.

What Are Rodgers’ Chances of Staying With the Jets?

The Jets will hire a new head coach and a general manager after the season after firing their clubhouse leaders midseason. The new regime could get a quarterback of their own choice, which means Rodgers could lean toward being released by the team.

The 20-year NFL veteran still has one year left on his current contract with the Jets, but the AFC East franchise will be willing to take a significant dead cap hit to part ways with him.

The recent rumors surrounding Garrett Wilson’s situation with the Jets could also force the team to part ways with Rodgers immediately. The star wide receiver is rumored to have chemistry issues with the quarterback, which are evident by his lesser target count in the last few weeks.

Recent reports suggest Wilson could demand a trade from the Jets after this season. Nobody knows whether it’s related to Rodgers or the team, but if it is because of the quarterback, owner Woody Johnson could prioritize keeping the wide receiver. As a result, Rodgers seems unlikely to be on the Jets in 2025, and a move to a team like the Titans is on the table if he doesn’t retire.
