The final day of the NFL Draft is jam-packed with 158 picks throughout the last four rounds of 2022. The selection timer will already be five minutes for Rounds 4-6. Moreover, the clock gets shortened even further to four minutes per selection in Round 7. Let’s look at when Day 3 of 2022 NFL Draft action kicks off.
2022 NFL Draft: What is the date for Day 3?
Round 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft begins at noon ET on Saturday, April 30, 2022. With more than two times more picks than Day 2, the NFL needs a bit more time to sift through the last four rounds.
While some impact players can be found in Round 4, the probabilities drop. The depth and taking chances on developmental projects become the main target in later rounds.
However, one facet of the football game tends to slide into Day 3: special teams. Kickers and punters have plenty of value in the NFL. A reliable special-teams unit can play a vital role in a team’s championship run, from converting extra points and banging home field goals to flipping field position.
While his name will 100% be called on Saturday, there is a chance for San Diego State punter Matt Araiza to slip into Day 2. The “Punt God” was the only punter to have two punts sail over 80 yards last season.
Another kicking specialist to watch for on Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft is Penn State’s Jordan Stout. Stout started his college career at Virginia Tech, showing off his leg as a kickoff specialist and converting 84.5% of his boots into touchbacks.
While Stout spent five years in college football, it allowed him to excel in punting and kicking. In 2021, Stout hit 34 of 36 extra-point attempts. He also hit 5 of 9 field goals from beyond 50 yards during his time with Penn State. That includes a 57-yarder against Pitt in 2019, which tied a Nittany Lions record.
