Is Super Bowl Winning Head Coach Andy Reid Set To Become Highest Paid in NFL?

Fear not, Kansas City Chiefs fans: Andy Reid isn’t going anywhere.

As the Chiefs marched toward their third Super Bowl title in five years, multiple reports indicated Reid could retire after the season. But the 65-year-old Reid reportedly plans to stick around.

Andy Reid and the Chiefs Are Working on a New Contract

On Monday, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported that Kansas City is working toward signing Reid to a lucrative new contract. The deal would make Reid the league’s highest-paid head coach, a title previously held by New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

“The Chiefs and Andy Reid are expected to begin negotiations in the coming weeks on a new contract that NFL sources believe should soon make Reid the highest-paid coach in football,” Pelissero wrote.

“General manager Brett Veach is also in line for a new deal, replacing the final two years on the contracts the duo signed following the 2019 season after the Chiefs’ win in Super Bowl LIV.”

Pelissero added that the new deals for Reid and Veach could be completed by next month’s annual league meeting, which takes place March 24-27 in Orlando.

Andy Reid Deserves To Be the NFL’s Highest-Paid Coach

With Belichick out of the league (for now), you could make a strong case that Reid is the best coach currently in the game. At the very least, he’s the most successful.

With only three losing seasons on his résumé, Reid has been a model of consistency. Yes, the Philadelphia Eagles failed to deliver a championship during his 14-year tenure, but they were almost always competitive and won the NFC championship in 2004.

Of course, Reid’s career took off after he joined the Chiefs in 2013.

Kansas City went 179-128 in Reid’s first 11 years on the job and played in the last six AFC Championship Games. With Patrick Mahomes under center, Reid and the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in five years, including the last two, while establishing themselves as the NFL’s new dynasty.

For all of that, Reid reportedly will be handsomely rewarded.
