Currently sitting with a 3-7 record, speculation is growing that Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy may not be extended for another season. Attention has turned to possible replacements, with Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders being the loudest name in the conversation.
NFL Analyst Convinced That Next Cowboys’ Head Coach Is Deion Sanders
Although Sanders has made it clear that he wants to stay in Colorado, saying so on FS1’s “Speak” last week that he “loves it where I am,” analysts like Colin Cowherd are still convinced the Cowboys are eyeing him as their next head coach:
“There’s been a lot of talk, and I think it’s obvious if you’re paying attention that McCarthy is out, and they are looking for a rockstar as a head coach. Well there’s this guy named Deion Sanders, the former Dallas Cowboy.
“… So there’s this feeling that Deion, although Deion said, ‘I’m not interested,’ would be in line to get the Cowboys job, and Michael Irvin was asked about that possibility.”
.@ColinCowherd doubles down on Deion/Shedeur to the Cowboys:

Irvin, a former Cowboys wide receiver, Sanders’ close friend, and former teammate, talked about the possibility of Deion leaving Colorado following the drafting of his son, Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to enter the NFL next season.
“You got Shedeur, you got Deion,” Irvin said. “I believe 100%, and I can tell you, good sources have told me that.”
Cowherd then talked about the Cowboys’ already-established quarterback Dak Prescott, who is now for the rest of the season due to injury and is scheduled for a second surgery soon. Prescott could make it difficult for Coach Prime to find room for his son on the roster.
The analyst also mentioned Prescott’s no-trade clause but compared his situation to Russell Wilson, who waived his no-trade clause with both former teams, the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, allowing him to be dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He further said:
“ I am convinced that if Dallas gets the No. 1 pick, and I think they have a chance to, I think they’re going to draft Shedeur Sanders and hire Deion Sanders as coach. … You don’t think Dak would waive that (trade clause) in two seconds if they drafted Sheduer Sanders.
“… Everything in life is negotiable, but especially a quarterback. … So I’ll say it again if Dallas loses in the next two weeks. … I think they’re a front-runner for the No. 1 pick. … If they lose on Thanksgiving next Thursday to the New York Giants, and to me, it’s the only way to escape the current mess. Hire a rockstar head coach and draft a rockstar QB on a rookie deal.”
Jerry Jones, who owned the Cowboys when Sanders played for them for five years in the 1990s and won a Super Bowl with the team in 1995, might be inclined to hire a coach whose potential he’s witnessed firsthand. Meanwhile, the Colorado coach is leading his team (8-2) to a potential path to the College Football Playoff.
