Since the NFL regular is coming to an end, rumors are flying everywhere about what will happen with the overall No. 1 pick, especially for Shedeur Sanders now that the Colorado Buffaloes’ season is over.
Rumors have been circulating for a while that Deion Sanders may leave his position at Colorado to join his sons Shedeur and Shilo in the NFL after their college careers are over. The elder Sanders has denied that he will be stepping down at Colorado, but rumors persist that he will be gone if the right situation arises.
FS1 analyst Nick Wright thinks he may have the perfect landing spot for Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter: the New England Patriots. Wright thinks the Patriots could land not only Shedeur but also the Heisman winner.
Will the New England Patriots Pull the Trigger?
“A not totally insane scenario: The Patriots fall in love with Shedeur, and instead of trading the #1 pick, they trade Drake for a Top 5 pick. They could then potentially draft Shedeur AND Travis. And then, for the hell of it, fire Mayo & hire Deion!”

First of all, a lot can change between now and then. The New York Giants are desperate for a quarterback, so they may be willing to give up a few veterans and high draft picks in next year’s draft to land Sanders.
We’ve already witnessed the Giants’ poor choices in major football decisions. All you have to do is witness what happened when they released running back Saquon Barkley, who is having his best season as a pro with the Philadelphia Eagles.
So it may not come as a shock if the Giants decide to go that route, but what do they have to offer the Patriots to move up? Not much.
Also, are the Patriots ready to sign their third quarterback in three years? As for Deion Sanders, many think the only coaching jobs he would consider are with the Dallas Cowboys or the Las Vegas Raiders because he has ties to both.
But maybe the only way he comes to New England is if the Patriots make this kind of deal where he’ll be able to coach his son. The Patriots and owner Robert Kraft will probably have to give up a lot to make that happen, but it may be worth it if he can get the top quarterback in the draft and one of the top coaches in the country.
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter’s Draft Prospects
In Pro Football Network’s most recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Sanders was taken first off the board by the New York Giants. Obviously, things have changed a bit since New York won in Week 17, but the order used was a projection as to what April might look like.
“The Giants have created a massive quarterback crisis. The worst thing? Most saw it coming. This means that they will have to take a swing at the market this offseason, whether by paying a free agent or using the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
They draft Shedeur Sanders, who has transferable skills and can start as a rookie. The Colorado quarterback has excellent pocket control and impressive throws on the move and also possesses the processing, mechanics, and field vision to have an impact in Year 1″ said Jones.
As for Hunter, he falls to third and gets grabbed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Travis Hunter will be the most discussed player during the NFL Draft process. The Heisman Trophy winner has been elite in two positions in college football, but whether he can continue to play two ways in the NFL is hotly debated. Either way, the elite athlete is likely the top overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft and possesses the best ball skills of any player available.”
