‘I Worry About Two Things’ – NFL Analyst Issues Warning to Franchises About Texas QB Quinn Ewers

College football insider has concerns about Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Quinn Ewers served as the starting quarterback of the Texas Longhorns for the last three seasons. He initially started his journey with Ohio State but decided to redshirt his freshman campaign and enter the transfer portal. Despite having another year of collegiate eligibility, Ewers decided to declare for the upcoming NFL draft.

The Longhorns quarterback is currently preparing for the upcoming Scouting Combine. However, NFL analyst Danny Kanell has come forward with his concerns regarding Ewers.

Danny Kanell Issues Warning to NFL Franchises About Quinn Ewers

NFL analyst Danny Kanell made an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of CBS Sports HQ. On the show, he talked about Quinn Ewers’ projection in the upcoming draft. Kanell believes that the Longhorns quarterback could be the sixth overall pick in April.

However, Kanell also expressed his concerns about Ewers’s game. He warned NFL teams about two major problems with the quarterback- arm strength and injury concerns.

“So I’ve got him at six for a couple of different reasons,” Kanell said. “But I’m a little bit worried about Quinn Ewers and the upside that’s there. He’s played a lot of football at Texas.”

“But I worry about two things. One, the top-tier arm strength. And two, his injuries. Did not finish any season he played in from start to finish. And then what I wonder is how much those injuries impacted his arm strength.” (TS- 1:40 onwards)

During the 2024 season, Quinn Ewers helped the Longhorns to a 13-3 campaign in their SEC debut. They also qualified for the 12-team playoffs where they lost to Ohio State in the semifinal showdown. Ewers missed a few games due to an injury but finished with a total of 3,472 yards and 31 TD passes.

CFB Insider Believes Quinn Ewers Should Have Stayed in College

According to CFB insider RJ Young, Ewers should have decided to return to college instead of declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. On ‘The Number One College Football Show’, Young explained the reasoning behind his statement.

“The knock on him right now is that the man has not played a full season of healthy football,” Young said. “I think I thought that was a good reason to return. I also know you know we’re talking about players who might not make as much as first-round draft picks as they would have if they played another year of football.”

“The QB market is being reset and reset and reset because the 20 million salary cap is what we’re going to refer to, now that schools have to pay all of their athletes, you expect your quarterback to take a large chunk of that.” (TS- 6:20 onwards)

During his three-season stint with the Longhorns, Ewers has led them to an SEC championship game, a Big 12 title, and two playoff appearances. However, RJ Young believes that the quarterback still has work to do to maximize his full potential.

Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are considered the top two picks in the QB class of this year’s draft. It will be interesting to see if Ewers goes in the first round after potentially improving his draft stocks during the scouting combine.
